What: Revs @ Dog Crap United When: Sunday, 3:00pm Where: RFK Why: Battle for the positioning for the Shield TV: FSNE Huge game for the Revs if they really want a shot at the Supporter's Shield, and the automatic spot in the 08 Superliga. DC's 13-6-3 (42), and the Revs are 12-5-6 (42). A tie for first with DC owning all the major tiebreakers. DC has a game Thursday night at Chivas, which will bring them even on the games in hand situation. If they win Thursday, and beat us Sunday, they'll be 6 points ahead (basically 7) and have a tight grip on that Shield. DC comes in as the highest scoring team in MLS. They have given up the fewest goals in the East. They have won their last 6 games, giving up just one goal in that time frame, and that was a penalty. The Revs on the other hand ... haven't been overly consistent but have won their last 2 MLS games. I can't believe how important this game is for the R
Yes a BIG one! Our long road will end at home on this one.....Hope we have the steam left? Thurs nite will be the tale of all! Sunday game will be the game of all.... ~worm~ Congrads on the Rail win...dirty game! MLS wins!
Heaps will supposedly be back. Thompson available. Presumably Twellman will have recovered. Joseph rested. Our form has been lukewarm recently. We will really have to pick it up several notches. I hope the memory of the last DC match is still in their minds. John or Reilly? Will Nyassi dress? Which of Joseph, Larentowicz and Dorman will draw short straw and have to play AM?
Greetings from North Carolina, fellow Revs fans. My wife and I have picked a helluva match to bring our kids to for our first MLS match, haven't we? She taught reserve forward Chris Loftus when he was at Duke, and I grew up in NH, so we are all Revs fans and have been looking forward to this trip for weeks. Had no idea at the time just how much would be at stake--can't wait to watch!
So the question to me is, what are we going to do up top? Noonan was shocking against Carolina, Twellman is sick, don't know how he'll perform (if he plays), and Cristman took a hell of a beating last night. Add to that the fact that we lost 3-0 at home with a "healthy" defense. Midfield is probably the only place I'm not worried, and since Shalrie only got about 30 minutes, he'll be fairly rested which is a HUGE help as everyone got a full 90, some getting 120.
Seriously, how do we win this game? Looking at DCU's recent performance, offensive firepower, strong midfield play, remarkable record at home, etc., it seems we have a steep uphill climb. Even with the recent time off, our guys seem tired and stale and we have no spark on the bench. Didn't see the RailHawks game but listening to it wasn't encouraging. Any insights into how we can win on Sunday?
As the DC fan mentioned above, DC is coming off a long stretch which includes a game in LA on Thursday night. Plus, it's soccer and MLS. Anybody really can beat anybody on any given day.
Of course. It's just going to be a tough game. I can see us winning, but the odds are much better that we sneak away with a tie. I just don't want to lose to them again.
We control the midfield, don't let Jamie run at you with the ball and don't turn the ball over in bad spots. That is the way we have done it in the past. It will be tough, but their legs should hopefully be heavier than ours and we do have Matt. Not saying we will, but we can and the team is good enough to do it. My hope is that the 3-0 loss to them at home is still a bitter taste in the players' mouths - they should be fired up to return the favor.
Keep the ball away from that offensive juggernaut Ben Olsen!!! kidding aside, I have more confidence if the Revs going into this game than I did when they played in Colorado a few weeks ago. The Revs fold against teams down on their luck and at time raise the bar when they play teams that should beat them. I think this will be a great match, 1-1 draw
Thanks you. I wasn't trying to be difficult---just trying to make sure it wan't a typo. I'm up in PEI and the Internet infrastucture available to me is quite primitive limiting my ability to get information. I have a dish system available that does not track the satellite that carries the Boston stations but will get FSNE. Go Revs Revs 3---DCU 1
Gotcha. I'm not sure why it's on FSNE and not on UPN, but I believe that it's on Telemundo so that might have something do it.
Yup.. (reluctantly..) Go... (tries not to throw up)... Chivas.. God, I'm gonna go get a soda, need to get the taste out of my mouth.
Last meeting between us has no bearing on this game. We gave up an uncharacteristic gift goal and then lost some composure. Neither are typical of our veteran team. DC's been cruising, but we're a much tougher challenge for them. Funny that people are concerned that we're not *looking* good lately - just getting results. I remember a LOT of concern when the opposite was true earlier on - we were looking great, but not taking the points. I expect a good, tough game, decided by who makes the fewest critical mistakes.
