    Not a big opera fan.

The thing about Pavarotti is that he turned a lot of people to Opera who never listened to it before.

I've met a lot of famous people in my time, and Pavarotti by far had the most in-person star power of any of them. He commanded a room like a king or a pope.

One of the few opera singers I'd ever listen to.

One of the few things I could listen to despite whatever mood I was in, and most of the time it was this man. This was incredibely sad news to receive.

I was very fortunate to see him give a recital in Munich back in 1985. Just Pavarotti accompanied by piano. I've never heard anything like it and I doubt I ever will again. He soaked the love out of the audience and then poured it back as beautiful music. He was a singular talent, and he really did command the room. RIP.

Gringo - You actually met him?
