Hey thanks for the people who recommended the Atlanta Cup. I had a great time down doing games down there. Is nice to go out of region, see some different teams, and meet referees.

So my question is, what about Thanksgiving?

As a 7 (6 by year's end), I know it might be a long shot for the San Diego Surf Cup tournament, but I did contact the assignor.

But if anyone has recommendations, I will gladly make some contingency plans.

    Thanks!

The PDA boy's college showcase in NJ is one of my favorite tournaments ever (minus the cold, cold weather we usually get.) Top quality teams, top quality pay, and top quality fields... without too much extra BS on the side. This tournament is about quality soccer and nothing else, and the player's desire to impress college coaches means behavior problems dwindle to a minimum.

USSF Ref is a wossie referee and complains about the cold because he is so deilcate! HAHAHAHAHAHA!:)

The PDA tournament is some of the best soccer around. Should you wish to attend they offer rooms for "out of town" referees, good fees for games etc.

Let me know if you are interested...always looking for good referees.

If you are interested in upgrading, we can arrange to have some national and/or state level assessors give you some tips

The only difference between Rochester and Somerset, NJ is the amount of snow and ice - not the general temeraptures. In November we can't even play soccer here most of the time. In NJ you can (almost) play all year round.

    Seriously, PDA's tournament is great...

You know, I haven't done a tournament on Thanksgiving weekend in some time because the tournament I consider the best (because I played for the club that hosts it), the Bethesda tournament, moved their games to the two weekends before Thanskgiving. This year the girls tournament is being played November 10-11 and the Boys on November 17-18, so perhaps you'll already be in town for the boys' event. It generally draws very good teams.

I've done the Baltimore Bays Boys College Showcase the last couple years. It's not in Baltimore. It's held at Mt. St. Mary's College, which is about 25 miles north of Frederick. Friday and Saturday of the weekend.
    It can be cold.

Never been (almost went once), but this is by far the best tournament over Thanksgiving (particularly now that they've combined the boys and girls): http://www.surfcup.com/surfcollegecup.html

Insofar as quality of play based on the clubs it attracts, it's up there for best youth tournaments in the country, period.

Not to mention, there are worse places to be than San Diego in late November.

So what's the scoop -- game fees, accommodations, etc. Do all non-local refs travel on their own dime, or do they assist/cover transport for some folks, etc etc.
