I think we have a problem for this game. Defensively, we have lost Flacko and Jeremy due to suspensions and I'm not sure if Needham will be 100%. I understand he took a pretty hard knock to his knee in the second half of the Atlanta game.

If we play Mime, Velez, Krause and Alexi acorss the back and Needham doesn't play, we have no subs excpet for Lars. And there is a good chance he will be playing left midfield. I'm glad General Clarke and not me gets to make the call on this one.

BTW, of the current top three, I think Seatle is the best opponent for us. The travel to Montreal is tough. I think Portland is the best team in the league, right now. Seatle provides easy access for travel, and although an outstanding team, we match up pretty well with them. I'm just want to dodge Atlanta in the first round. Their stadium has been very "unlucky" for us.

Just read IslandersFC.net. We are really down player wise. Three are out due to injuries, two to suspensions and two players are on national team duties. With Noah and Marco back, we will be better, but we won't be at full strength until next week.

I'm looking for a tie. The point will be a big help for us and kill Charleston's playoff hopes. I just want to get through this game with no injuries or suspensions. I'm still hoping for Seattle but will take whoever comes. After tonight, only three more weeks of play and the seasons over. Go Islanders!

Good game. Delgado could have won it a few minutes from the end. Shot it wide on an open goal :). 0-0 final result.

CHARLESTON, SC -- Going into the season finale Friday night the Battery had to beat Puerto Rico. It didn¢t happen. The Battery concluded its league schedule drawing the Puerto Rico Islanders 0-0 at Blackbaud Stadium.

Going into the must-win game, the Battery pushed numbers forward from the opening whistle.

In the fifth minute Lazo Alavanja nearly put the Battery in the lead putting his 15 yard shot to the far post only to have it saved by Islanders ¡keeper Josh Saunders, who desperately pushed the ball away for a corner. Tim Karalexis got on the end of the resulting header, missing over the cross bar by inches.

With numbers forward, the Islanders took advantage in the 28th minute forcing Dusty Hudock to spectacularly turn away a Fabrice Noel header.

The Battery continued to push numbers forward looking for the go-ahead goal throughout the first half, but could not mount any significant threats.

In the 57th minute Puerto Rico¢s Peter Villegas forced Hudock to a diving save to the right.

But with the season on the line, the Battery would not give up. Aaron King, who threatened the Islanders back line for much of the second half, forced Saunders to push the ball wide with diving to his right for a corner kick after beating a defender off a perfectly weighted ball from Alavanja in the 58th minute.

Two minutes later Stephen Armstrong¢s left footed blast from 20 yards out was chested off the line by Villegas.

Armstrong had another chance three minutes later when Armstrong found himself alone in the penalty area with the ball at his feet. Unfortunately, his resulting shot sailed over the cross bar.

The Islanders nearly ended all hopes for the Battery in the 70th minute when Noel got a good shot off from close range. But hopes were kept alive when Battery defender Brandon Curran cleared the ball off the line to keep the Battery¢s hopes alive.

The Battery continued to press forward. Twice in the final minute King beat defenders inside the Puerto Rico penalty area, but could not get off a shot.

The draw narrows the final playoff spot to two teams: Carolina RailHawks and Miami FC. Carolina must win its game Saturday at California to knock Miami out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Battery finished the season 8-14-6.
