I don't believe this article at all he doesn't say its rumored so i wonder what he based it from plus how could LA take away one of the main pieces of the puzzle. We need to some how convince MLS to give each team another DP slot (or 2). What do you guys think about this

Its rubbish for now. I cant imagine MLS hurting the golden boy from playing with golden balls. Id expect MLS to expand the DP rule, so more teams can sign better players and keep teams like LAG intact.

I don't say this lightly, but Donovan is really yesterday's news.

It's not that I don't like Donovan, or think he "doesn't have heart" or any of the normal BS nonsense. But it's hard to deny that in terms of MLS marketability you have:

    BECKHAM
    -
    -
    -
    -BLANCO
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -Angel
    -
    -
    -Donovan.

First of all, there are new young players to get excited about like Altidore, and then there is a new wave of international players coming to MLS. It's not like he's particularly good at interviews, either.

I think he's a great player, and I'm sure he's a cool guy. But his cost/benefit, especially when we lose him for almost a month per season - we could do better for 900K a year.

maybe he'll ask to be traded to Chivas so he can stay in So Cal. He did go to SJs biggest rival when he left. It would fit the pattern perfectly

Every single MLS team would like to have LANDON DONOvAN. Maybe 5 players in MLS are bigger names then Donovan Rigth now. ANd you know who they are!!!

Yes, a lot of teams would want him, but not all teams. You think RBNY would rather have Landon than Angel and Altidore? I don't think so. The main problem with Donovan is his price, currently making $900k per year. He's not worth that much and no on will want to keep paying him, except maybe AEG. Even then, the only way they can keep him at that price is with a second DP slot.

Like I said in the other threads that brought this up - it makes no sense.

San Jose has no players to trade for Donovan. Do we really think a couple players picked up in the expansion draft are an equal trade for Donovan? Plus I still think that Donovan has a no-trade clause in his contract.

My guess is if Donovan leaves LA, it will be to go overseas.

What a scoop! "Ian Parker, SPECIAL to PA SPORTS TICKER"! Jesus Christ.

Is there any news here? Didn't we just rebuild the roster, from top to bottom? What does this article offer that we haven't all been discussing already for about 7 months?

I was hoping they were going to change the rules of the DP slots so it wouldn't be a problem...
When they first said that current DP type players would be grandfathered in so that next year they would require a DP slot it didn't fit very well with the teams...or so I heard. I was hoping they would develope something like an American DP slot for each team...or have the teams not required to have a DP slot for American players. It will be tough for teams to deal with going forward...they will want the American players to come back, but there are only so many DP spots available...what will they do then!?! At some point they are going to have to raise the salary cap and allow the teams to build the "super club" if that is what they want the world to see...they just need to take those steps to get there. Sooner rather than later.

Hopefully you're right. Their needs to be some changes. It won't only benefit the galaxy, it'll help the whole league. But as far as the Galaxy, what the team needs most is stability, and MLS can't afford to have a losing team in LA. Keeping both Donovan and Beckham will be essential for a winning team in the future.

    Go CObi!
