Alright! You can call me a sexist bastard, but i love watching girls playing soccer. They just try so HARD and are much cuter than other female athletes

Volleyball and Softball take soccer in hot girl %. Soccer is a bit more like basketball.

I think its time to add some pics to this thread so we can have a side by side comparision.

On a separate note, do you think there's any chance for current G's season ticket holders to get some sort of discount if they get season tix to the as yet unnamed WUSA?

I think its a dumb idea myself. the WUSA didnt work out. Cant these guys learn a lesson? Lets make MLS the best league and fill the stadiums before introducing another top flight soccer league. Didnt MLS attendance drop during the years WUSA was active? Coincidence? Maybe. But still makes you wonder. So we'll have WUSA and USL as competition to MLS.

If MLS was older, with more fans I might be for this, but we are still a young league, with crappy attendance in many cities still. I mean THREE pro soccer teams in LA? Its a bit overkill. I view another league as competition at this point. In 20 years, a womens league would be a nice addition to garner attention for MLS.

This is not about forwarding womens soccer, this is not about forwarding women, this is not about forwarding soccer... this is all about the money. The last sentence of the Yahoo link proves correct...

"We... are committed to long-term growth and profitability."

I am actually very excited to have a women's pro team in Los Angeles... It is good for all involved. Girls need good sport role models...not just the skinny rehabbing hollywood types that they see in all the magazines... Showing young girls and women that being healthy and playing sports is a good thing can only help our health issues of the youth today. Also not forgetting, that girls that are involved in sports have less teenage problems and are more successful in school.

I am bummed that it got moved to 2009, but understand why it was. Originally it was supposed to start in 2008...but World Cup and Olympics are important tournaments and will either help or hurt attendance for next year.

    Getting off my soap box...:D

Hmmm... you might be right about volleyball... but softball? Jenny Finch aside, that is.

Dude, some of you are being too harsh. I'm a guy. I watch guy sports, but on occasion I'll tune in on some important (or where there are good looking, sorry) women's sports. However, i feel it is up to women to mount the challenge to be sports fans and go support a team. Any team. Not just in soccer. So I'll be in support if it happens, but it's up the the women of LA to decide if this thing would work.

There are a lot of good-looking women in volleyball and softball, but there's also a lot in soccer. And women's soccer is such a good, competitive sport. Volleyball's OK for a spectator sport but just so much more repetitive than, say, soccer.

I go to WNBA games but I have to say there's a lot more good-looking women in soccer than basketball. Not sure why that is.

At any rate, I'm really looking forward to a new women's league and to the World Cup that's starting next week.

Let's see, what should we say about soccer, any soccer, in the US. How about MLS? -

"I think it's a dumb idea myself. The NASL didn't work out. Can't these guys learn a lesson?"

As for the WUSA, or the new women's league, being competition for MLS?Maybe, but probably very limited competition. The potential fanbase only partly overlaps the MLS fanbase - fans of women's sports often are specifically fans of women's sports, in other words they aren't big fans of the corresponding men's game. Or they're sick and tired of men's sports - the over-commercialization, the over-aggrandizement, the over-saturation, the overpaid salaries, the over-expensive prices, overly-fanatical behavior of fans, etc.

Will the new league work? Hell if I know. I'm scared that there may not be enough interest for it to make it. It may prove to be dumb to try it again now.

But not because men's sports have always succeeded the first time and never failed. Because that's not true. And not because the people who have no interest in it (which they have every right to) tell those of us who do care we should wait 20 years, and only then to garner some attention for the MLS.

Because I don't give a damn about the MLS garnering attention from women's soccer. I give a damn about women's soccer itself.

You're on an LA Galaxy forum.

We just got a guy from England by the name of David Beckham. Girls seem to love watching him play soccer.

I don't think you need to apologize...(!)

My youngest sister was offered a scholarship to a University in the states (can't for the life of me remember which one but in Colorado) to play soccer. She plays for Bradford City, and became their youngest debutant at 16. She got the same agent as I had, and he advised her not to bother as US womens soccer was in financial trouble, and going in a few years would be advisable (this was last year).

I thought Womens soccer was really entrenched in the States, so I was surprised to hear this, but its good to see it going through something of a renaissance.

    I love it...
I hope the new League is going to somewhat be tied to MLS... ie... WMLS...instead of WUSA
AEG LA Womens Soccer owns the future LA womens team...so Maybe the team will be LA Galaxy Ladies...
Maybe there will be double headers at the HDC...
LA Galaxy Ladies vs Boston Breakers then LA Galaxy vs NE Revolution... I personally cant wait...
I wonder what the franchise names will be?? Also...if St Louis gets a womens team..how far away are they from getting a mens team?

The standard is pretty high. My sisters team played our team in a 20 min a side kickabout friendly and we could only draw 1-1. Bear in mind we are semi-pro, and they are under 19. Obviously these games aren't official due to the law, but we had it as a charity match. It was non-contact until I got hammered ala Ben Thatcher on Mendes down in the corner. Give it time, It is picking up here too. There is now a semi-pro league, with the top sides like Arsenal fully professional. Englands national side is fully pro as well.

Bro, ESPN2. Live from China. Check out ussoccer.com for more details. We're the favorite to win, but it may not be that easy. Germany, Brazil are very good. And don't forget China, the host country. Should be good times.

Bro, there are many hotties on our team. Check out Hope Solo, Carli Lloyd, Leslie Osborne, Lindsay Tarpley... Heather Mitts got injured and couldn't go. I've met them all in person. They're not only pretty but also have nice personality.
