Has everyone seen the adverts in the Arsenal programmes regarding the Arsenal Opus book? It's this insanely large, complete history of Arsenal, with lots of exclusive photography and information about the club. It's leather-bound and ultra-high end, but the damn thing costs £ 3,000!

Does anyone else find this insane? I wonder if the information will ever be released in something that supporters can actually afford. I'd easily pay $150 for an average-joe version, but no way am I paying more than $6,000 US. If I had that kind of scratch, I'd be investing in the club itself!!

Just curious if anyone else had the same thoughts.

I was looking at this last week. It is pretty sweet. Although, I'd rather spend the money travelling to see a bunch of matches than have the book. I guess I am not their target market for this!

Everything this company makes costs about that much and more.

The F1 Opus signed by Hamilton and our good friend Ecclestone costs $40,000

That book makes me cry; I could get a Vespa for that price. But everything in there can probably be found in the vastly cheaper official AFC books already on offer. If not, then Jon Spurling can show us the way.

Theres only 3,000 being made, and each one is signed by Wenger.

I hope my local library can get one in :D, I think I will request it for a laugh.

It's supposed to have the photos taken with that massive old camera that results in ultra-high quality polaroid style one-offs. I don't think they're going to be available elsewhere until the Opus is sold out.

Just not sure why Arsenal would want to appeal only to its richest supporters.

C'mon my son, this is a club who built by far the largest luxury suite and club section in the Premiership, charge £50 for shirts, changed their crest for copyright reasons, and charge more for tickets than anybody else.

This club's about big money, and OPUS is in the business of producing hugely expensive books. Google their Super Bowl book.

insane. theres no words to describe how crazy a person would be to buy a $40,000 book about the inside of a car and a few autographs.

I'm well aware. But what's the REAL market for a book like this?

If they sell all 3,000 copies at £3000/copy, the total value is £9 million.
You could do a worldwide circulation of 120,000 at £75/copy and make the same amount of money and make the work available to more supporters.

You forgot the contract paid for the exclusivity, and I think 120,000 at £75 a copy is wildly optimistic. Football books sell well, but not that well.

Arsenals worldwide following is rumored to be around 27 million. If a book like this was released even for $150 im sure there are enough english speaking people in that 27 mil to buy 120,000 copies. No doubt.

What if we were to all chip in, and keep the book at a central location - like Rick's house? :p ;)

It will end up being like that Simpsons episode where Bart and Milhouse pool their money to buy Radioactive Man #1. We'd have to work out an Opus visitation rights schedule!! :p

That's actually a pretty good idea... If we raise the premium member fee a couple dollars (it's probably more than I think; I'm not sure how many members we have that pay annually), then we should do it. Rick could keep it as a gift from all of us for doing all the work, then we could browse it when we come out for games.

    ;)

At least it's not very expensive.

We really need to get a hold of that Opus. A collaboration sounds like a great idea - too bad they are making so few of them.
