The In-Game thread is already 10 pages long. Have at it.

    Re: Revs/Carolina Post Game Thread

just got back...a couple of notes:

The Revs were clearly the better side at all points in the match.

I thought Ralston had a nice game.

The first goal was a thing of beauty.

Loftus is really tall. Otherwise, I didn't get much of an impression in his 15 minutes.

Our new midfielder (I forget how to spell his name and it wasn't on his shirt) is really fast and his breakout set up the goal. Otherwise, he was a little shaky.

Reis saved the day a couple of times. Parky was his usual composed self and Khano looked ok on the ball at times, but otherwise struggled.

The other side was a bunch of goons

Riley looked pretty good. Jeff L. gave the ball away a ton. Cristman worked hard, missed a few and fell down about 30 times.

Would have been nice if they were selling Revs merchandise, a whole bunch of kids in CT would be wearing Revs gear if they had been.

    Re: Revs/Carolina Post Game Thread

I got there about 22 minutes into the game with the Revs down 1-0. It was a VERY scrappy affair. The refs had a tough time keeping it under control. There was a lot of hacking going on. Both sides were involved, but I would have to give Carolina the nod in that department. This game could have ended 3-3 from what I saw.

We were fortunate (given some of the referee's decisions) to escape with the win. It was a game that we deserved to win I thought, but we were still fortunate. Reiss, Parkhurst, Ralston and others were screaming at the ref for how long the two minutes of stoppage time lasted at the end of the 2nd OT. That Carolina was able to get off the corner was bad enough, but when Reiss cleared their shot along the endline away from the goal, and the ref let them play another 30 seconds and we had to clear another shot off the goal line, I think really got their dander.

That said, Christman and Smith had golden opportunities to ice this game well before then, but blew great opportunities. I'm talking about in alone with the keeper opportunities. VERY disappointing. In that kind of game, you need to do that. Carolina showed great heart and determination (and lots of chippy fouls.)

OK, I don't like to whine, but there were at least three elbows/arms to faces of Revs players that I saw that were not called. On the flip side, there was Parkhurst's foot to the face of the Carolina player (Although that was mitigated by the fact that he was totally wrapped up by the Carolina player and being pushed/dragged down. There was a case to be made that the first foul was actually on the Carolina player. Not saying it was the stronger case without review, but there was a case.) During the 'dustup' after Avery committed the yellow card foul (well deserved, by the way), Stokes came in late and just shoved the heck out of Smith I think. He got a deserved yellow for that. It was clear to me in my time there that Stokes wasn't going to finish the game. The Edozien/Joseph altercation happened in the scrum (before the kick I think) for that free kick. I certainly didn't like that trade.

The Revs played good enough and the Gambian did come in and change the game. That we were able to win without Twellman (and dare I say, without Wells Thompson - though I only say that in regards to us bringing in Loftus and the Gambian) was good to see. However, our decision making and distribution need to be much, much better. On our far post crosses or switches we never seemed to be able to get it over the head of the last Carolina player - consistently tonight we hit it to the Carolina player's head, not to our player running behind him. VERY frustrating.

BTW - Nicol came as close to punching a referee as I have ever seen on one of the offsides calls he made. Man, was he livid.

One other thing - I didn't spot a Kraft there, but I did see Craig Tornberg, Michael Burns and Sunil Gulati there.

totally agree with both of these statements. Christman needs longer studs and another chance to sell merchandise and help advertise the Revs goes down the tubes

    Re: Revs/Carolina Post Game Thread

A few notes from the "other" side.

Sounds like we always knew we didn't have the talent to stay with New England for the whole game and the fouling/chippiness was definitely a team tactic (not one that I'm proud of but given our lack of talent v. an MLS side, not surprised by).

The early goal was stunning for us, but I knew immediately how we'd react. 10 people behind the ball and lots of fouls to break up the flow. That's just how our coach plays is (not pretty to watch).

Our radio reporter said that Edozien claimed that Shalrie Joseph spat on him in the altercation. That is really disappointing to me. I've always had a lot respect for Joseph as a player but I never like to see that. I have no idea what Edozien did either to provoke it or in retaliation. Does anybody know if Shalrie and Connally had any kind of history when Edozien was in New England?

Interesting to hear Loftus get into the game. I watched him play many a game at Duke during his collegiate career. He's tall and lanky and doesn't really seem all that remarkably talented, but somehow he managed to score a bunch of goals at Duke and definitely was an impact player for the Blue Devils. He probably would be a standout USL-1 player but I doubt he'll see much time in MLS.

In addition to Mike Burns (who did our radio show at halftime), JP Dellacamera was there as well and spent some time in our radio booth.

Good luck against Seattle or Dallas...I've watched in person the last two years as the Revs left Frisco empty handed. I'd like to see some silverware this year.

Sunil pulled in to the lot in a nice car with New Jersey license plates.

And Adam Cristman was parked near the Riders lot post game.

Very physical game. Carolina bunkered all game, even when they scored. The Revs were bunkering as well, at the 70th minute I thought for sure the game was going to PKs. Noonan was in the right place at the right time. We even had opportunities to go up 3-1. Reis was a beast, and Parkhurst was incredible, he cleared the ball off the line at least twice.

    My quick thoughts:

    -Noonan...WTF?
-Khano actually played good....most of the time.
    -The Gambian kid looks goooooood.
    -Polish people are insane.
    -Garret is insane
-Shalrie's red was bull shit, I've got the whole thing on video.
-These refs blew. Steve said it best, they don't know the modern rules, especially the new offsides.
    -Complacency almost got us again

More analysis tomorrow, as well as pics and videos. Gotta get up early tomorrow and I'm really tired

EDIT: Because I love you all, I'll post a teaser

So anyone watching the Seattle/Dallas game? Dallas just scored in OT... I'd personally much rather see Dallas. Seattle plays like demons and are great in the air.

Of course, I think that's worked against them tonight. Without an early result they've run themselves into the ground and Dallas was finally able to control the tempo of the game at a more "comfortable" pace. They couldn't seem to handle Seattle through most of the first half.... But I still root for the underdog even though I'll feel more comfortable facing Dallas. :p

I probably would have been thrown out in Gillette for the stuff I was yelling at. Seriously, I've never seen such a blatant disregard to the new rule then tonight. All the calls were the very reason why they changed the offside rule, and this ref didn't get the memo.

    Re: Revs/Carolina Post Game Thread

    Some thoughts:

1.) I wasn't all too impressed with how we played. No reason why it should've gone to overtime and Carolina had some very dangerous chances every now and then.

2.) No security = fun in the stands. The flares and the smoke bombs were great (except the orange one?!)

3.) The gambian kid had no name on his jersey. If I had known that I would gone to the freakin pro shop and had one custom made for him. They signed him on friday and he still doesn't have his own freakin jersey?!?!

4.) The Carolina players were straight up thugs. I saw one of them throw an elbow at Riley when he was down on top of him.....no call. Makes you nervous when 9 of your normal starting 11 are on the field and players are going in with fouling on their minds.

5.) Who were the new guys in the England and Brazil jerseys? They were a hoot.

6.) Overall the stadium was a lot of fun because we KNEW that the players could hear us. It was a fun atmosphere, makes me want that SSS -now-.

Last, sucks I'm going to be watching the final on TV, but I'll be there in spirit . Thanks to ngower for the quick teasers on the pics. If anyones wondering, I'm the guy in the brown shirt with the keys on my belt loop in the first pic.

    Re: Revs/Carolina Post Game Thread

What a way to start the day... as you guys are ending yours. Woke up, made a pot of coffee in my room (an hour before the damn wake up call because all night I've been wanting to be here checking out the score) ...

And we won. Yippee!!! :D So catching up...
Nope, it was a "bidding" process, that apparently we lost to both Dallas and Seattle. The final would have been in Dallas had they won, or Seattle had they won. We didn't win our bid against either team.

Depth has been and will continue to be an issue. I hope Nyassi gets the chance to play in a MLS game last night, but really doubt it. But ... his signing was made worthwhile last night.

So ... anyone about the SJ incident?
Thanks John. Love Barney's bald head looking back to see what was going on.
Well you're also one year in. Give it time. :)

OK, was he really that bad?
And on the other end, it seemed like Khano was horrid from what the in-game thread said. So which one was it?
Give it time. Sounds like a great assist ... I'll still be shocked if he plays a minute in an MLS game this year.
I could have told you both. ;) Drank with the Poles after they beat us in Korea (but S. Korea bailed our asses out) ... man they can friggin drink. Almost gave me a run for my money. I said ALMOST!
And the question of the day, more reports from people about what happened here please.
Extremely classy post ... and Rep'd. Hell, I think you were drinking with us at a couple of points over the last couple of years, IIRC.

Anyway, as mentioned earlier, I'd love to know what the hell happened between SJ and Edozien. And not the homer announcers POV, but reality.
Yuck, bad memories of that stadium. Back to Dallas. So who's in?

I'm going to give it 24 hours (and I hope others will as well) before starting the USOC Final, who's going thread.

But damn right I'm in. And yes, I'd rather not buy my tickets from Kevin. I think he's bad luck. :p

BTW, for all those people that just don't get it ... and think that myself (and others of the same opinion) are jubiliant when bad things happen ...

I wish you were going to be walking around Munich (and Grenobles later this afternoon) with me today, sporting another Revs kit, and a big f'in grin on my face.

Well, the only thing I'll say with this many beers in me is this: I will never complain about MLS refs again. These A League linesmen don't even know the offside rule.

    Sigh.

We apparently get the creme-de-la-creme in MLS, who are mostly blind but at least seem to know the friggin' rules.

p.s. Singing next to flares is a lot harder than it looks. When the first one landed near me, I thought it was a smoke grenade.

loved the smoke and flares tonight, really made me wish we could do it all the time. I'll be in Texas, can't wait.

Khano wasn't anything special I thought. Noonan looked and acted like he was upset to be playing at such a small stadium in front of a small crowd. He lacked motivation.

The whole card fiasco with Edozian and Joseph went over my head it was pretty much right when we showed and I missed the whole thing, any explenation would be helpful.

The poles were amazing tonight. I would love to see them be regular fixtures at gillette.
