OK. Suppose your team is trailing 1-0 in the 90th minute and is awarded a free kick from just outside the penalty area.

Who would you want to take the kick?

    Juninho
    T. Henry
    Ronaldinho
    C. Ronaldo
    A. Pirlo
    M. Arteta
    Nakamura
    Beckham

    Someone else?

Well five years ago, Mihajlovic. Now from short range I'd take Ronaldinho; Pirlo from further out.

Wow this is a hard one. Juninho or Nakamura depending on the angle.

Cronaldo is crap at free kicks, all he does is whack the ball as hard as possible usually straight at the wall.

Thanks for including some of the best South American free kick specialists.

I forgot all about Ceni. 43 goals from free kicks is nothing to sneeze at.

I'd also put Riquelme into the equation.

I think Pirlo is clearly the best FK taker. Second i would put Ronaldinho.

Yeah I forgot Pirlo he's great. Ronaldinho is overrated, but still very good.

He may be overrated (to what extent, idk), however, the same media/fans who worship him when he's on form are the first ones to write him off when his form dips, (and is still one of the best in the world)

Yes I agree that he is one of the best players in the world. Maybe the best. There's so much more to his game than free kicks though. It would make my year if he signed for Chelsea.

Yeah, thats the joke, he's not near free-kick specialist, and yet deserves mention in this thread.

I'd have to put Roberto Carlos on that list. Especially late in match when one wants ones scorers forward around the goal awaiting the inevitable rebound.

    Have a go R. Carlos!

Oh yeah, I'd have to relinquish my avatar if I didn't nominate Stevie Gerrard.

    1-nakamura
    2-pirlo
    3-juninho
    4-riquelme
    5-ronaldinho/henry

i am not being bias towards naka i just think the importance of the free kicks hes scored and how regular he scores or gets them on target is awesome.
also a special mention for who i consider the greatest mihaijlovic.
and also don't forget about recoba on his day.

Probably Beckham. He has showed his skills for years. Beckhams set-piece is one of a kind. He can score by a FK or get a bulls-eye directly to a team-mates head. He was a main reason behind Man Utd's previous dominance, he was a key player in WC 2006 when England struggled and he's never stopped to deliver. I think he's highly underrated by many just because he's a "hot boy" with his commercials and stuff.

That being said, I haven't seen too much of Nakamura (other candidates I've seen plenty of)

..and he tried it again during the Argentina match with less success. Still a phenominal golazo. I still put Riquelme up there with anyone of these lists if not better.
