So the Bulls pulled out another 1-0 win thanks to JPAngel yesterday vs. Chicago. I read in the Central NJ Home News Tribune Newspaper that Arena said JPA has been "playing w/ a strained intercostal muscle for several weeks." Hope it doesn't get aggravated...and hope Jozy is back to take on Chivas next Sunday. We need our most potent strikers to be healthy in time
for the playoffs. I wrote elsewhere last week that I think the BUlls need 45 points total to guarantee a playoff spot. They are 9 points away from that...so 3 more wins out of 7 remaining games will do it and we still can claim one of the two top spots in the Eastern Conference...expecially if we can find a way to beat NE when they play us again in 2 weeks... BTW Chivas looks poised to win the Western Conference so this game should be a good one. Plus the Bulls need to pay back Chivas for the drubbing they gave us at home last month.

I don't think Chivas will take the West but they definitely will stay in second place. I don't really see Houston relinquishing that top spot. This is gonna be a tough game for us. We have our 2 best strikers injured and Chivas has a fantastic home record. We will definitely need Claudio and Clint to step up and run this game. Doe looks serviceable up front so maybe he'll get the start? I wouldn't mind seeing him.

SHORT STINT ON SIDELINES from bigapplesoccer.com
Arena: Injured Altidore should be back soon

East Rutherford, N.J. -- Red Bulls coach Bruce Arena says don't worry about forward Jozy Altidore. He should be back in the lineup very soon.

Altidore missed Saturday night's 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire with a lower left leg injury. The 17-year-old phenom did not dress for or sit on the bench.

    Arena said Altidore was "day-by-day."

"He's a yong kid," he added. "He'll be back very soon."

The Red Bulls play at Chivas USA next Sunday.

My question is : did Bruce (knowing that he was going to have to rest Jozy's ankle eventually) bench him this game on purpose to hopefully deter Bradley from picking him for the US squad against Brazil?

and will it work? Or will we be playing JPA and Woly up top again.

I think it made sense to rest him for no other reason than it was a home game on that godawful turf. My guess is that if the game had been on grass, Jozy could have played, but turf makes everything, including small niggling injuries, worse.

Plus, generating offense hasn't been our problem against Chicago (he says after a 1-0 win ).

I'd love for the Bulls to make a positive statement this game and put at least two into the goats' net, shut down Galindo and Razov, and win by a couple of goals. Chivas is a quality side, and sooner or later we need to get back to playing well against teams like this on both sides of the ball.

Good point J! Just look what the f***ing GS turf did to Ivan Guerrero last night...if that is not an MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) tear I will be shocked...he is gonna be out for a while for sure...

If we win both of our next two road games against Chivas and Chicago that would be an amazing step in the right direction... I would be happy even if we win one of them or tie both!

You never know w/ Il Bruce..and we will probably never know..but BB and Bruce are pretty tight so I suppose BB wouldn't invite Alti if Bruce didn't want to let him go.... besides Jozy was pretty banged up he last two games and will be facing The Emperor next game...so I could see resting him before the game vs the goats...

just to let you know, Dema played in the reserves game today. he wore a mask which covered most of his face, but it didn't seem to slow him down at all (he kept chanting "i'm going to f***in kill them"). we took to calling him 'the phantom' and are thinking of getting him a black cape to go along with the mask. all we need now is a chandelier to fall in giant's stadium!

doe played the first half, mike magee scored the goal and also a second, which was called offsides. it was a beautiful goal and not in the least offsides. jonny played the first half, cepero played the 2nd. cepero made a huge pk save - totally read the kick. elie ikangu is back from france and played well, as did patterson, mendes, laventure, goldthwaite and freeman. it was a pretty good game and i look forward to seeing some of these guys in the line up soon. chris karcz got hit in the knee pretty badly, but walked himself off the pitch. it was a little rough, but it shows that the team is not as thin on the bench as we sometimes think. there is some talent there. wish i could travel the next few days, but have to stick close to home - it's a new school year! can't wait until the 22nd to redeem ourselves against the revs. :)

Looks like Jozy misses another US roster, so barring injury, he'll be available against Chivas on Sunday.

I didn't expect him to be in the US roster yet, but I was half holding out hope. This isn't a huge game for us but it would be nice to take away a point from Chivas. I think Doe might get the nod if Jozy isn't 100% fit but we shall see.

I'm glad Jozy didn't get called up for Brazil. It's still early for him to get a callup like that and besides we really need him for this last 7 game push so lets all pray he's good to go and if not lets hope Doe can step in and at least work his ass off. Chivas is a quality side this year, but we can certainly get a win on Saturday. I'm hoping for a good wknd - a US win (or draw) and a RBNY win to temper the sting of last time when the US fell to Swedes and RBNY botched it in DC and NE.

I'll be happy if Jozy plays, but I would have liked to see him get a senior cap while a Red Bull.

Anyway, we can get 3 from Chivas, but only if the defense holds itself together. Right now, I don't know who should play in the back 4, but I've always like Parke and Mendes together. Maybe Freeman, Leitch, and/or Stammler.

I'd like to see VDB, Reyna, Dema, and Mathis accross the midfield, and Jozy and/or Doe up front with Angel.

And for the record, I'm a Waterreus guy (although I wouldn't be upset if Conway plays, I just think Ron is the better keeper.)

At one point he certainly was, but I am not so certain anymore. Regardless both have their issues. At the moment Conway would get the nod if I were manager though.

Jozy is out this weekend according to BAS.

    http://bigapplesoccer.com/article.php?article_id=11203

I would like to see Doe get the start with Angel. Woly was pretty useless against the Fire. Doe hustled more than Woly....he worked hard to get the ball back and actually got us in on a break a few times.

If Doe does start with Angel up top...does Vide play on the right? Magee? Dema?

How many of those Chivas games are away? If I'm not mistaken, they have a pretty poor record on the road.

doe is best off the bench jsut because his speed and physical nature, healthy fresh legs off the bench= goals and adantage over tired defense. his physical atributes(speed and power) greatly outweigh his soccer skill set(finishing crossing vision)

Regardless of that report, I'm still expecting Jozy to play and will be disappointed if he doesn't, but if he's really hurt then he needs to rest it so he's good for later on

I think Jozy's time for the Nats will be the right time. Bradley knows when to call him up wheather Bruce is here or not.

Don't forget that Richards will be suspended at Chivas-USA, so I believe Markus Schopp will be in the line up since he just returned in the reserves match from another nagging injury.

So I think Clint will be in the midfield, and maybe Doe will pair up with Angel. Or Clint joins Angel withdrawn so he can be the link with the midfield to Angel. But that doesn't mean Clint can't join in on the rush.

Schopp makes me nervous... he doesn't play D...but neither does Richards... We may see Dema again or Magee or Sinisa...Doe may not be fit enough to play the whole 90 so you may see Woly up front again...

    here is my predicted line-up:

    Walrus
    Freeman/Leitch Parke Mendes
    Schopp/Dema/Magee/Sinisa Reyna Vide VDB
    Mathis
Angel Woly/Alti (I am still not convinced Alti won't be playing against Chivas)

I dont think Jozy will play against Chivas. I hope he does but I dont think he will. Reyna basically said that the team will be fine with a tie away to Chivas so I dont think Bruce will risk Jozy.

Even if Doe isnt fit I think we need his tenacity against Mendoza. I dont see Freeman back in the lineup this week. Magee might get a look but to me thats a big might.

My starting lineup (assuming Jozy cant play)

    Waterreus

    Leitch-Parke-Stammler/Mendes-DVB/Goldie/Stammler

    Doe/Vide-Dema/Vide-Reyna-Mathis

    Angel-Woly/Magee/Doe

I left a lot up to choice but who knows what Il Bruce will decide to do this week.
