Anderson is hoping to build on his 'amazing' Manchester United debut.

The Brazilian starlet came off the sofa late in the second half of the clash with the McKenzies Girls and by all reports put in a dazzling performance.

Anderson has admitted his delight at making his first competitive appearance for United, following his summer transfer from Porto, and he is now looking to build on the display.

"It was amazing, not just for me but for my family as well," he said. "As a young boy it was always my dream to play against top notch professionals."

"I was lucky enough to do it with Porto and now I am at United. I feel proud to be here and I want to do my best."

    Dream come true

Anderson, though, admits he took his time before joining in because he wondered if his experience at Porto had properly prepared him for this moment.

"Franky i was bit worried about being upstaged by Nani who was walking around saying "I'm hot, I'm hot."

"I wanted to jump right in, but I called my Agent and he told me to wait a little longer," he added.

"I was doing well at Porto and knew that joining a club like United would bring its own pleasure. But now the pressure was on me to perform."

"When Tyese expressed an interest in me later that night. I felt it was the right time.

Apparently all went well at that point with the Girls admitting he was most well endowed.

"That certainly put Nani in his place," chuckled Anderson. "I hope Sir Alex realizes I was his BIG signing of the summer."

"Joining United is a dream come true for any footballer in the world."

Anderson left me dissapointed with his football debut, but he only had 45mins, they should have took of Eagles.

eagles was showing a lot more then anderson was. To be fair to anderson, it was his first showing and he only found himself with space to run at defenders once.

I think its fair to say that Anderson needs to acclimate to the league and that 45 minutes is hardly enough time by which to judge him. That being said, Anderson looked better as the half went on and he started to understand what kind of time and space he's likely to find. I was not unhappy with his debut.

A bit of a victim of circumstance at the weekend, I thought. Not really fit, (he plays in the reserves tonight to help with that) unfarmiliar with team-mates etc. and playing in a system that we've been struggling with.

I agree. He actually had few nice moments. Played a nice ball to Tevez that resulted in a shot on goal, and one moment where he fought through the defenders to win the ball on the edge of the 6 with only the keeper to beat. Unfortunately, he got called for a foul, but I didn't see much in it.

Sadly he's not showing an awful lot for the reserves at the moment either....

from playing CL footy with Porto and Copa America with Brazil, it's hard to get motivated playing for the reserves I would imagine.

I think it's a bit of a culture shock for Anderson. It's been a brutal first half, all kick and rush and lots of head-tennis. Probably good experience for him though, seeing how hectic football can be in England.

One would have like to see some sort of quality from him though, a bit of control, a pass, a dribble... anything really. Eagles was the best player tonight but Lee Martin also showed some good stuff, his two cross field passes were superb.

    I like it.

He seemed nervy in the first 10 minutes or so; he chased EVERYTHING -- to a fault -- and much of his effort produced very little. For a man his size, he also seemed to go down easily, and I was somewhat disappointed in his holding and passing the ball.

That being said, and imho, he's a player for the future, and anything positive we see of him now is just a bonus. I don't expect anything from him this season, and I'll be thrilled if we see slow and steady progress with him on his periodic appearances.

He was very poor last night and clearly looked out of place in the hustle and bustle of reserve football. It wasn't just a lack of fitness, he clearly looked like an alien to English football.

He doesn't seem to ever move into space to receive the ball, which is a surprise to me because it is in contrast with what I'd heard he was like at Porto (all-action, always moving?) - he is almost always static until the ball is played directly to his feet, at which time it is snatched off his foot before he even has time to take stock of the situation.

English football is clearly a massive culture shock to him and his natural propensity toward 'hanging around' rather than getting involved is going to take a while to 'correct.'

The first team set-up is going to benefit him more than the lower levels at the club as it is clear that the kind of football he thrives on is more what our 1st xi is capable of rather than what the kids left at reserve level can do with the ball - only Gibson and Hewson at that level are able to pass how he would like, imo. I can see him Scholes, Carrick, Ronaldo, Nani, Giggs, Rooney, Tevez and Saha having a lot of (non hooker) fun together once they're all on the same page and he is clearly a player who will thrive in that central AM role in the 4-2-3-1 with all the movement around him and the option of taking a back-seat on certain plays.

He clearly has talent and lots of vision and the first thing that needs to be done with him, imo. Is to get him involved in as many games as possible with the first team. His style demands familiarity more than anything. He appears to be bone-idle lazy if you're not paying attention or aren't familiar with that kind of player - but whilst he's standing there apparently doing ******** all, he's observing the movement around him and he has that Riquelme/Ronaldinho ability of playing perfect passes straight through the heart of a side and that will be his killer attribute here - we don't have short-pass player like him at the club.

Scholes and Carrick are easily our best passers over a distance and they are fantastic at ball retentative one-touch football in the middle of the park, but you're not going to see many acutely deft, measured short through-balls from either of them over a season. Carrick's range is much further out and his passes come from much deeper. Scholes also prefers those longer distance perfect flighted through balls over the shoulder of a backline at closer range he'll more often take te shot or the simple lay-off over the deft trickery like his assist to Rooney in the CL SF. Anderson is likely to play that measured short-ball through a DM and two defenders perfectly to the feet of an on-rushing attacker on a game-to-game basis and its an exciting consideration given the players he'll have bombing into position for him.

He's going to be at his best in the slower games where the ball has no avenue but the ground and short, triangular football. At higher speed, where he is expected to find space, I think he'll struggle for months. It's not just a fitness issue there, it's cultural. I've seen loads of languid 10's like him and it's a style of play rather than a reluctance to move about... whether we try and eradicate that and force him to move around a lot remains to be seen, but I think he'll be absolute pants at reserve level irrespective of whether he plays one game there or twenty - that's just not his football and the short-passing ability of our side is beneath him, for want of a better word.. This kid needs to be working next to the Scholes' and Carricks etc of the club as they will have absolutely no problem at all feeding him the ball time and again whether he is static or on the move. At reserve level he's just going to get bypassed time and again unless he changes his game considerably.

    ---

I'm surprised at the comments about the game. I thought Sam Hewson was our best player and that Martin wasn't at his best. Eagles looked quite good, but his lack of strength was highlighted time and again last night.

So are you saying that Anderson will take a lot longer to gel with the first team compared to Nani and Hargreaves who show immediate impact?

In my opinion, the quicker the rest of the team settles down and starts playing like they can, the quicker a player like Anderson will be integrated. I have no doubt whatsoever that he can peform at the highest level of one-touch and triangular football already and I'd say he's the 'icing on the cake' kind of player who makes a good team a better team by adding final 3rd vision to all the movement and skills of others.

If we are struggling he will take an age to settle down I think. Nani and Hargreaves have styles of play that require them to run a lot, they are not manipulators of the ball or situations in that they are proactive players that try to make things happen by carrying or running toward the ball. Anderson, by contrast, makes the ball do a lot of the work for him and that means he needs players orbiting him and giving him options to pick from.

We're going to have a headache giving him starts because the area of the pitch that he plays is too important to experiment in, plus we have Tevez who also needs games and would prefer to play that position (in a different way) as well. I guess we'll have to be patient with the kid, his role is easily the most difficult of all the players brought in and his style is the furthest removed from English footy, so it'll take time.

He will, inevitably, get dismissed by others supporters as a luxury player who is destined to fail like Veron. But I'm glad to see aot of Utd supporters have got pateince with him.

He is very yong, coming to a country where the football is played totlally different to the rest of the world. He hasn't had alot of game time and has limited experience of any 1st team action, Porto included.

His style and technique reminded me very vividly of a young Ronaldinho which is nice, but it's important to remember that it took the latter a number of years in France to come up to speed with European football......

Gotta agree with that - I haven't been known to rate Hewson in the past, but yesterday he was quality, I thought he simply everywhere, and he has also seemed to have developed an added awareness of the pitch, and an appreciation of space to his game...

PS - What do you make of Richard Eckersley DS? I've been impressed with him from the little I've seen over the past year and a bit...

Strange that, from what a poster from the caf had told me, and I quote:

"Anderson is very strong and fast, with excellent dribbling skills and a great eye for an incisive pass. His through balls may well be the best at the club very soon."

From that, it seems he's much more of a "Runner" than he's been letting on at United so far. In fact, I think that if we put him on the Right Wing and let him cut into the left, we may well see where those Ronaldinho comparisons are coming from.
Also, if anyone was watching the Barca match against Athletic Bilbao from the weekend, you may well have seen Ronaldinho in the centre, doing very much an impression of Riquelme, staying in the centre, using his burst of pace and acceleration only limitedly, and instead using his supreme vision and creativity to open up the opposition....

Anderson looks a completely different player to what i saw in his clips,:( however i do still have faith in him, i still think he was a better buy then Nani its just Nani has had a good start plus he had the preseason in Asia, he also does not look as bulky as he did in his clips at Porto, i think he might have lost a little bit of muscle, but hopefully with our coaches in a year he wil put nadal to shame.
