1954-55 season. That's the last time Belenenses won a league game at Alvalade. Let's keep up the tradition.
HT 0-0 just before halftime, a play which was almost identical to the one that sealed Sporting's defeat at the Dragao occured. Surprise surprise, no call... Belenenses got away scot-free from the backpass. anyways Sporting came close a few times to score, the final ball seems to be lacking today. hopefully in the second half Sporting can score goals and win the match.
Such a frustrating game till someone actually scored. Moutinho should of put the game away, simple. Vuckevic another great showing after coming of the bench. Polga and Roma clearly best players on the pitch. Izmailov or the midfield altogether showed life after the Veloso sub. I would or most sportinguistas would love to know what was going through PB's head to go with those last 2 subs, Derlei was shit in 2nd half yet stayed on the pitch while playing with fire and taking out Tonel.
Well I think it was a hard fought match as normal from Belenenses. Just hope they play with this determination throughout the season. The defense played well, and deserved the shutout, as for Ronny i'm still not impressed with his defensive positioning, and his free kicks are nothing short of returning the ball to the opponent. Polga is as solid, and being the top CD in the league. Veloso played a decent game and was called of due to Sportings lack of scoring. Izmailov had a decent, but nothing to right home about. Mouthinho faired well, but that PK will leave him with a bad mark. I know he's young, but as captain in a 0-0 game he needs to put it away. Derlei worked hard, but was far from the previous matches. Vuckcevic was a breath of fresh legs we needed desperately. Held is position well, and created good possesion along the left side. Kept the attack nice and wide, and it paid off with a nice cross for Levezinho. Levezinho what can you say in a field of much taller players he comes up a header that gave us three well deserved points. As for PB leaving in Derlei I have to agree, one because he pulled Derlei or Liedson back more, as to not leaving too many players up front. Taking Tonel out was a bit risky, but since their a man up, and Belenenses isin't attacking much. Why not. Again well deserved 3 points.
SCP played hard but not well. Missing another PK could have some psychological impact as those need to be put away. 3 Points and keeping pace... By the way, Xistre didn't make the call that Proenca did last week, and the play was almost an exact duplicate. Hmmm....maybe Franco should call PDC for lessons on how to pressure refs
Just finished watching the VHS tape, and that's the first thing that I was going to say shameful . Anyway, Belenenses has a strong team and I wish them well in their up-coming Uefa Cup match-up w/ Bayern, however, they didn't have to resort to the fouling that started very early in the game, where in the first 5 minutes J. Moutinho was on the ground twice as a result of very overtly attempts to take him out of the game by illegal means. The latter part of the 2nd half saw much of that rufian tactics again. The visitors were well organized and their counter-attack almost paid off in the only real attempt at scoring when the shot skidded off the left up-right. The pk call was Costinha's mistake, there was no need for him to foul Liedson because the last defender, Fernando I believe it was, did get to the ball in time. Great cross by Simon and a sweet headed goal by Liedson. Got say it, I was disappointed with the Slavs overall, and with Romagnoli and Derlei.
