I didn't see this posted anywhere, but EJ and Davy are packing up and headed to face Brazil.

    And more recently too? *sighs*

Seriously, though, congrats to Davy... and EJ, too... ;)

Bonus points for the first to post who scored the winning goal. Double bonus for how. I know I was the only person in the bar watching right up until the goal (me going bonkers drew some attention); and I had to drive downtown to watcch it and that was the only place in town showing it.

Is it any wonder that Chivas USA is now 1st in the west (pts/gm) -- and if they beat DC on Thursday, they're in the driver's seat to win the Supporters Shield?

Imagine Preki as head coach of the Wizards...

    No don't, it's too depressing. :(

    Congrats to Davy!

That's quite the honor when you look at that list. Only 5 MLS players:

    Pablo Mastroeni, Rapids
    Landon Donovan, LAG
    Chris Seitz, RSL
    Eddie Johnson, KCW
    Davy Arnaud, KCW

I know Bradley's been throwing some caps around to a lot of guys who don't have them, but it's a pretty well-stocked group (and rightfully so against Brazil). Davy's making an impression on more than just us...

Also, Bradley tried to call him up in the offseason, didn't he? Or was that just a camp?

Not that he didn't deserve it, but I'm guessing it also helped him that the Wizards don't play this weekend.

    D@mn right.

I don't know that Preki is the be-all-end-all in Chivas' late success. Early days, yet. It's a part obviously. Remember Bradley had the reigns before and there is considerable young talent on Chivas' roster. That said, Preki has been a winner anywhere he's ever been in any league, even if he was the only winner on his team.

Preki's punting to Miami in '01, if it happened in NY, dc, or LA, would stand today as the single worst FO decision in MLS history.

Forget his relative worth on or beside a field of play. All due respect to Jimmy, but Preki is still the closest thing the KC FO has to having some touchstone to history, a marketable icon, and/or a known name. On the list of wasted marketing opportunities is there any bigger error than not having him here? Successful companies do not ever allow assets to go away for nothing. KC has done that twice now. It's very much like Microsoft not enforcing a patent on something like Excel.

On to the novela part: What is KC missing that is causing 9k attendance on average? Among other things it's the good-feeling/history/nostalgia that older or more successful clubs in all sports have. KC has some people already, but those are a small number. A new stadium only does so much to get people out once or maybe twice. Then they move on to other new things in absence of a compelling reason to return. Groups are created and grow, among other things, through events and traditions that foster belonging or a need to belong.

In the world of team sports, the short list of these things is uniformity of color, songs, repitition/tradition/habit, legendary people, legendary games, and a party of some sort. It doesn't take too much creativity to do a few hundred words on how Preki could augment almost every area if connected to KC. By contrast, Preki's not being here is at some point at least an opportunity cost (and lost) if nothing else.

..and there's every possibility he may be a great, not just good, coach. Onolfo might be too, we don't know yet.

I can't begin to explain how happy Davy getting the call makes me. Effort and heart go a long way with me. After some of the apathetic appearances of others it's about time we see Davy up there. Now hopefully he'll actually see the pitch.

The Wizards schedule has never been any concern to the USSF before, why would it be now?

KZ gets the call too! It's good to see that he's been invited... Even as second choice.

I was thinking he was on the fringe of getting a call again. Good for KZ.

    Kansas City Wizards - 2
Brazil - 1 (only because they didn't call Jimmy) :D
