hello all- i am a casual fan who has been following MLS with the arrival of Beckham. I must say i do like what the league has to offer and soccer in general...

as a person who lives in the tristate area, i want to root for the NY team but find myself cheering for the Galaxy and the Dynamo. I want to like the NY team but the name has got to go.

i really like that some of the MLS teams have taken a page from other countries and put more emphasis on the city -- i.e. FC Dallas, Toronto F.C.
If ever any city in the U.S. needed emphasis it is New York! Since "F.C." is pretty rampant here, can we please get this team to change their name to A.C. New York? I think that sounds great and brings prestige to the city. Red Bull can have the stadium name remain and hell, they could even be the corporate sponsor on the chest of the uniforms. But A.C. NY is marketable and really would make the NY area interested. What does everyone think?

Ok what part of Red Bull don't you get? The team name is advertising. As long as they own it, there will not be a change.

God, I can't believe no one's ever thought of posting a thread like this before. It's like there's a brand new, original thought every day of the week. This should go into one of those idea-a-day calendars that you tear off in the morning. So thought-provoking.

why are they so greedy? i've never heard of herbalife before in my life. and then i see their name on the galaxy's jerseys.. so why can't NY call themselves something else and still rock the red bull logo for corporate sponsorship? Why risk alienating fans to sell the already popular Red Bull drinks?

If the name bothers you so much, chances are you don't care about the season this team has had so far, and probably don't have a clue about the things that are really important with respect to the Red Bulls and MLS, which means I'm not interested in anything you have to say.

So they should change the name, of the team they own, then advertise on the team they own's jerseys? instead of getting an outside sponsor and adding another revenue stream? i really agree with all the other posters, please think before you post, the name really isn't that bad, i was against it at first but it has proven to be a good thing.

You can't ask this question wrt a corporate multinational and expect to be taken seriously.

If Herbalife owned the Galaxy they'd be Herbalife LA. Kind of like one of those great Euro clubs you love so much is named after their sponsor: PSV Eindhoven.

And fwiw, as a real fan of soccer I was far more alienated by 9 years of shit than by 18 months of a slightly unusual name. Most of the other people I know who love the game feel the same way.

Hello Trevor. I've got just the software you can use to do this, if you like.

And please keep on supporting the Galaxy. They need all the support they can get from the casual fans like yourself.

Yeah, so this is really what I wanted to wake up to in the morning.

I suppose it's better than waking up to a Thai tranny hooker after a three day coke-fueled alcohol binge.

In any case we all have better things to do here (like bash Bruce, argue the merits of Reyna and our keepers, etc...) and besides, I'm sure NYAC would have a problem with taking their name. and they got a bunch of rich people in that club
