Will the USMNT win a World Cup in your lifetime and if not how well will we improve on our Quarterfinal appearance in 2002?

Maybe wishful thinking hehe, but I think either a runner-up or win with the new generation of young players that we have led by Altidore, Adu, Edu etc. (Thats if they amount to what their potential is)

I want to say yes but then I think of teams like Spain, Portugal, Holland. Teams that are much better than we are, and they have never won it. Its hard to see us winning one when none of these teams have been able to do it.

i would vote no...but maybe someday. i mean- only six teams have ever won it. i do believe we can get to a place we seriously contend, but this is betting your house against the field.

It's going to be hard for anyone to defeat Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, etc. It might happen someday, but I doubt it.

Seven have won it. It is easy to forget that Uruguay ever won it, but they actually won it twice.

I think we'll get to 3rd place in my lifetime. But then, that's realistically only about 50 years from now.

Bob Bradley will be coach for the rest of your life?

I sure hope you're a LOT older than me.

The US unofficially won 3rd in 1930 WC. There wasnt a 3rd place match back then so it was shared with Yugoslavia

At the moment no, the younger players are getting better, but your still falling well short of anything resembling a World Cup winning team. In 2010 it will be an acheivement if a relatively modest one if USA reach 2nd round with the crop of players who are likely to be palying for them at that time.

That said who can say what will happen 30, 40 or 50 years hence? The vast majority of the players who are likely to take part in 2042 (when I should still be alive inshallah) onwards haven't even been born yet. Sadly though the insects will have taken over the earth by 2020.

Some might argue the 02 squad was good enough to have won it. Hell the 06 wasnt as bad as it seemed and I dont think talent was the issue there. Its just the US will have to play in a Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Italy neutral location to ever have a real chance outside of a miracle run. This pretty much excludes Europe and S America forever. Theres a good chance to do well in S Africa but we can kiss 2014 goodbye before it gets here. If England gets 2018, you can kiss that one too. Realistically, the best chance the US will ever have in most of our lifetime will be when (if) the US host again.

One day everyone will be using robots and then we will easily win.

I am 17......by the time im 40 I think we will win at least 1. By the time I die it should be even more.

Our talent is there. Our U-20's this year showed that.

We just need better coaching at the youth level.
