http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_2228239.html U.S. ROSTER BY POSITION Goalkeepers (2): Tim Howard (Everton FC), Chris Seitz (Real Salt Lake) Defenders (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham FC), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock), Frank Simek (Sheffield Wednesday), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United) Midfielders (6): DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Bobby Convey (Reading FC), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC), Benny Feilhaber (Derby County), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids) Forwards (4): Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Josh Wolff (1860 Munich)
I am very, very dissapointed to not see Adu, Altidore, Clark, and Parkhurst!! The first XI should be ok but it's the same crap all over again, we should have just kept Arena it's no different. Gooch and Boca are going to get dominated all game long. How are we going to improve bringing out the same lineup every single game, and when someone plays bad their spot is handed right back to them? this is a big problem and that is one of the main reasons we need a succesful foreign coach.
Coach's interest in Wolff makes sense. Ching is out. Twellman is not trustworthy. Altidore is too raw. We play two matches on European soil in OCT. We all considered Bornstein in - well, he's not. Although Mastro and Feilhaber were injured, they were chosen. Now if they surprise us in the way they play vs Brazil - coach is on the way to saving his job.
Name GP GS Min G A SOG Davy Arnaud 23 23 2047 4 6 23 Jozy Altidore 17 12 1087 8 4 16 Davy is 27 Jozy is 17 Doesn't make sense.
I completely agree, him and Parkhurst are inexcusable, Parkhurst is a great defender and I really wanted to see how he did against a team of Brazil's quality, Hopefully Altidore is off due to injury and will play against Catolina, and Adu will play in that game as well being based in Europe, but Clark and Patkhurst definatly should be in this game.
Why fly Bornstein 12 hours to Sweden, then fly Pearce 10 hours to Chicago? Convey? If he looked slow against Sweden . . . . Mastro? There's no way he'll be on the 2010 roster, and we've got, like, 10 d-mids who could. Why Mastro over Clark? If he's going to bring in Mastro, then he should bring in Lewis over Convey. He's certainly in better form. Wolff? See Mastro. We don't have the plethora of proven forwards. But, there are some young guys that are 'bout as good as Wolff that would have a chance at 2010. I hope he doesn't have Wolff penciled in as a starter for WCQ's. (And, I'm a big JW fan). Dolo, Simek, and Spector? That means Spector is going to be square pegged into a left back position again. Why can't Spector play his more natural RB position just once? I'm prepared with a barf bucket for when we come out in the inevitable 2 d-mid formation. My starting 11 with this roster -----------------EJ -------------------------------Dempsey -----------------------Benny ---------Beaz-----------------------------------LD------- ---------------------Mastro Pearce--------Gooch----------DeMerit--------------Dolo
Nope, we are going to have the great Boca-Gooch that pairing that everyone loves so much, and Bradley will start with Mastro so we have a potent attack as always, lastly Spector will start at his uncomfortable left back leaving pearce to come all this way to sit on the bench when he could have done so in Europe The rest is right. Howard Cherundalo Onyewu Bocanegra Spector Donovan Mastroeni Bradley Beasley Dempsey Johnson
Anyone with common sense. He missed Saturday's league game with an injury, and you're expecting him to get a call up 48 hours later?
I said my starting 11. Not Bradley's. It couldn't be Bradley's, there's only one d-mid. Bradleys will be something like -----------------Donovan Beaz--------------------------------Dempsey -----------------Feilhaber ---------Mastro-------------MB Pearce------Boca-------Gooch------Dolo
Shame about Altidore being injured couldnt have come at a worse time i really wanted to see him next sunday. But wow, look at that lineup. Mixed feelings on it, im sure lots of it had to do with MLS scheduling but alot of it is completely perplexing. No Parkhurst, no Clark, no BORNSTEIN . Yet we include EJ, Wolff, Arnaud and but exclude Jimmy Conrad?! Alot of this doesnt make sense. If MLS really wants to build itself up it really needs to showcase its best, and leaving players like Parkhurst, Conrad, Clark, Bornstein, etc. really makes little to no sense. I still think we have a very competitive squad here, but we wont be our offensive best until we have a healthy Altidore. Dempsey and Donovan was the best thing we've seen up front all year i hope we stick with it.
No offense, but I like "Bradley's" more than yours. It's far more likely we'll see Donovan on the right, which Bradley has done without fail since Denmark, only switching things up in game. Dempsey will be up front, which is unfortunate because if that experiment has shown anything, it's shown that Dempsey can't win a ball in the air to save his life and Donovan goes MIA on the right (although there is a high-likelihood of this happening wherever he's placed on the field). Wolff would be a good stop gap up top because he's fairly crafty the few times we'll counterattack and will work his arse off all day hounding their back line in possession. This team is not as good as the one in 02. Pope in his prime was miles better than anything we have now (it's too bad Parkhurst lacks physical stature, because he's head and shoulders better tactically than anything else we have in the back). We don't have the athleticism of Sanneh and Hejduk on the outside, the cerebral possession of O'brien in the center or the youthful enthusiasm of Donovan and Beasley up top. For those who would say that we're building for the future, and that only official competition matters, that's what Arena said six months before the 06 Cup.
why no parkhurst? i would of liked to see him instead of gooch against a team that plays through the middle. arnaud?....he has 0% chance of making the '10 roster. who sees a blowout coming...
we hope for a draw here man , and watch this game for the Tim Howard show. And pray to the gods for a set piece, because with what we wll have up front we wont be able to score with the run of play I hope Dempsey-Donovan develop more chemistry. Because that is our best chance right now. Throw Dempsey in a mosh pit the game before and hope he can become a physical presence i guess? he played well against Tottenham hopefully it carrys through.
one thing i am REALLY questioning ore than anything, its really sinking in, is why no Jimmy Conrad? If the other KC guys. Why not him?? He's no question at bare worst our third best defender. Did he pick up a knock that dont know about?? Because Jimmy freakin Conrad deserves to be on that roster.
No, it doesn't make sense. Neither does Josh Wolff, or the same rehash of defenders rather than giving Parkhurst, for an example of someone who has aboslutely earned it, a chance [If BB gave Parkurst a game at the Copa--where he did very well-- just to prevent Ireland from capping him, without serious interest in him as a player, then BB is doing the Arena crud far too exactly].....Building for the future? How so?
Yup, this was the perfect chance to blood them against high quality opposition.....Why not let Convey, Demerit or Gooch or Bocanegra, or Wolff play in the Euro matches if he must? Is BB thinking that this friendly is more important as a result than as a chance to get very good information for the future WC team? And how the bloody hell does that jibe with the Copa indifference. Muy mal, Senor Bradley.
This roster is a bit dissapointing. What makes it worse is the inevitable cm pairing of Mastro and Bradley.
