Is anyone else getting annoyed with these Goal Updates in the 10:00am Setanta EPL matches? for me this is ruining all the SDD matches I could be watching in the afternoon, don't know about you, but I don't like watching games when I already in the Score.

    Any thoughts?

The feed you are seeing is the Setanta Ireland feed, and they only get one game at that time.

I'm not sure that there's any other option except to watch the secondary game Setanta shows (if you get that in Canada), which is the international feed and thus has no score updates. And then hold off on the primary game until you watch all the others you want to see.

Don't like the goal updates on bottom of the screen either.

I want to watch some of the games later as they repeat them several times not just on Setanta but other channels but like you, watching a match, you already know the end result of, isn't as exciting or good.

If you go to setanta.com you will find a contact email address. They DO read and respond to emails. If enough people complain, then they will contact the UK office to tell them to stop giving scores.

But make sure you send the email message to Setanta UK/Ireland because the US folks will tell you that Setanta US is just carrying the feed. I sent this message last year and that's what Setanta US told me. I never bothered to send a message to UK/Ireland but will have to do that as well. I would think that people in the UK and Ireland want to watch more than one match from time to time, but I could be wrong. Don't know if people in the US watch more than one NFL game or one baseball game since I don't watch the NFL and when I watch baseball or hockey, I only watch my local team. Take care.

I hope that none of the people complaining about the Setanta goal updates also complain about getting European/International feed and commentators.

As noted above, we are now getting the Setanta Ireland (or in some cases UK) feed and for the 10am Sat game they are updating what is their main audience (Ireland). Personally I'm all for it as it updates everything else that is going on as well as giving good studio analysis. I don't really care about knowing the scores of games that are being shown on tape delay anyway if there are live games on to watch.

You can't really have your cake and eat it in terms of wanting the international feed and commentators but then wishing that they stay away from goal updates because there are additional tape delay games on in the US.

This is just my 2 cents, but sports are meant to be followed live. Do you get angry with CBS when they give live updates during Sunday NFL games? We're lucky enough to be able to follow European soccer now up to the second - I'm all for getting as much LIVE info as possible (although I'm usually following the scores online at the same time as watching the Premier League and listening to QPR).

You can't expect media outlets to edit their programming to not spoil taped matches. Frankly, I think that when FSC does that, it tarnishes some of their broadcasts (ie ignoring relevant results during live matches).

Good luck telling the gamblers in Ireland and the UK that they can't get goal updates because some guys in Canada and the US don't want the Fulham-Everton tape delay match to be ruined ;)

Actually, the feed announcers rarely talk about scores for other games except (A) the last day of the season or (B) in very rare instances they will talk about an earlier game that has some effect on the title chase or relegation but this usually happens later in the season. So, most of the comments so far, at least as I am reading them, have to do with the graphics.

I have to say that unlike the US commentators who give away scores for games they are showing on delay, which makes no sense, give away scores for games in other leagues, which is frustrating to no end, the feed announcers are really good about this. Again, it's the graphics that give away the scores. But, they do the same thing in the US for NFL and MLB games.

As far as gamblers are concerned, that really isn't an issue, as was established in another thread a few months back, because the games are usually on a five-minute delay. Gamblers are going to use another source if they are that hard core about needing up to the minute info. Take care.

I'm in the camp that greatly values the international feed over the score updates issue. I was very pleased when I noticed the Ireland feed was being used. Commentary has been markedly better.

Makes watching at the pub way better also, since you get live halftime reports instead of 20 minutes of Hurling previews.

As danielmak mentioned, emailing SetantaUS is useless, they've not replied, I'll try UK/Ireland and see what they say.

I know nothing will change but it's worth a try, showing the results of upcoming SDD matches just seems Stupid to me.

If you don't like the score updates, cover the screen. The rest of us want the updates to enhance the game we are watching... LIVE!

I find it annoying as well, but I doubt they will change their UK or Irish broadcasts just because some viewers over here don't want the score updates to pop up. A better solution is to ask Setanta to show us the standard feed that we see on all FSC Premier League games and those Setanta screenings that are not broadcast on Setanta in Ireland or the UK.

I am waiting for the day when we can actually control what's on our screen. If we want the ticker, we can pull it up when we want or keep it on the screen at all times. If we don't want the ticker, we can remove it from the screen. If we want a time clock, we can pull it up. Etc. Etc. The technology should be there. I'm not a computer expert, but isn't this the gist of Ajax software in Web environments: controlling how much or little is on your screen at one time?

I would think there are two issues that would prevent this: (1) advertising and (2) bandwidth.

As for the first, I totally understand. I have never once complained about the small Budweiser ad that appears on the ESPN or ABC screen because I remember the days when futbol was cut up with commercials, and am so happy to see those days are gone. The ads are usually small enough that they don't mess with the action. It's the other stuff that kills me (giant logos, tickers, scores of other games).

As for the second, and people on this board who know more about TV production can probably speak to this, it would seem that the amount of data pumped through the air (satellite) or the fiberoptics (cable) for an HD broadcast can't be any less than the kind of adjustable screen I am calling for. Is it? TV seems to be one of the last types of media that allows minimal control for the viewer (although that is changing with DVRs and pausing live TV and these new NFL/MLB channels that allow you to watch all the games and choose one then go back). Anyway, it would seem like someone somewhere is working on something like this and the networks could pump into our homes the same kind of things that are pumped to the networks from the sites (i.e., A Spanish feed, an English feed, crowd sounds, and an image are sent from Spain to Gol TV. Gol takes the correct feed, mixes it with the crowd sounds and images, and pumps that up to their satellite which then arrives to us via cable or satellite; it would seem that they could just relay that info and we could mix it ourselves).

In the meantime, as Debbie Harry sings, I'll keep dreaming...Take care.
