http://fifa.com/newscentre/videos/player.html#ch=u17&id=585961 Germany just stomped England 4-1 who was one of the favorites and we were close to tying them. Did we over react to this loss, and Germany is just that good?
It was the inability to string passes together, lack of off the ball running, and terrible coaching that upset many US fans not the German result only.
I don't think it was so much the Germany loss that pissed everyone off so much as it was the humiliation of conceding 7 goals to the likes of Tajikstan and Tunisia... let's face it... it was a bad tournament... 4 games played - three lost. I think, given the relative ease of our draw, many were expecting a lot more....
As the earlier poster said, the real problem is the Germany match was not the score, no disgrace losing to Germany. It was that we played a different level of soccer than Germany -- one that relied on scrambling defensively, throw ins, and spot kicks, as opposed to stringing together passes. If England had the same problem, they should be upset, too. If they played OK but got beaten by a few great goals, well it happens. That's not so bad.
I saw England against Brazil and England was horrible but stole the result at the end. From the England-Germany highlights, Germany looked to have had more scoring chances too.
You are right. If you play a team very competitively and lose by a goal due to a bad break or a great play, that is one thing. Looking like you do not belong on the same pitch is not acceptable. In the US we really have to stop trying to justify losing in soccer to the better teams all the time and make the changes needed to be able to compete and win on a consistent basis outside of CONCACAF.
We sucked. Please. Let's not escape the obvious lessons here. Just watch the Germany tape. Its shocking apparent where we are bad.
well you are better than England...you lost only 2:1....but the big soccer nation England lost 4:1 to Germany so you are definitely better then England..!...at least in youth team...U17.. and I like your soccer much more then english! P.S. now we are in half-finale....and play against Nigeria. I hope this time we will win the cup!
Exactly it would've been one thing if we showed well but we lost against the Tajik's lost against Tunisisa, and barely beat out a ten man Belgium team. This team just wasn't very good, period.
Seriously... I've got to laugh at people comparing us to England because England lost by a larger goal margin. Look at it this way guys ... England reached the quarterfinal and beat Brazil... we lost to Tajikstan. If anything I actually regret beating Belgium and making the knockout stages. First round elimination would have been a wake up call for our FA. These youth tournaments are so crucial to our player's development. The English league is so strong - it will constantly produce quality players but for us - our project 40's, our youth camps, and tournaments like these are critical to the development of our future national team. Look at how many of our current crop of players have come from this team. There is no overreaction to this sorry performance I'm afraid.. it's a serious concern and even if some heads are gonna roll, we need to take a deep analysis behind this failure so that we can keep up with the Tajikstans and Tunisias of this world.
I assume the heads will roll in England (as they have rolled for hundreds of years, metaphorically speaking).
Hard to overreact when your team is outclassed by Germany and Tunisia, and outplayed by Tajikistan. We are at a point in US soccer where these types of performances cannot be accepted. So, no, not overreacting. Instead simply dealing with the harsh reality that we have ways to go.
