If I'm Morrow, it's a tough call. Sala is apparently suffering from a confidence problem [more mental errors than physical], so benching him could finish him. But Burse has clearly been better lately.
    /Glad I'm not a coach.

geez hoopsters. Sala is the same guy that has played for us the last couple of years. When you are making an injury recovery you are not at the top of your game. Our defenders served up two of the goal on a platter. Sala at 100% and confident probably doesn't let in 4. I gaurantee you that Stevie feels more guilty than anyone about the way the game played out. I don't know if anyone here has coached a match like that but I have and the first thing you do is analyze what you could have done differently and what could have been done better. Stevie knows that several players were making an injury return and those players were playing with teammates that were not 100% sharp from the layoff. The game and result may have been very frustrating but not a shock.

OK, here's my beef: If a player in a position as critical as GK isn't 100%, and your doe-eyed rookie is playing [effing] awesome in the meantime, why fix what ain't broke? This has nothing to do with liking/not liking Sala. This is about winning games, especially down the stretch. And yes, I am aware that Burse didn't exactly blank Houston last time but despite the lone goal he made some pretty stellar saves. I would have preferred more of that tonight. Well, that and FCD scoring.

And yes, team sport, team screwups. I'm not blaming Sala for the loss. But I'd like to blame him less, ya know? :(

Now it is a tough call. Before it was easy. You play the guy who was playing well.

Now it is a ********ed up situation.

I'm not saying Burse won't eventually be the starter. He's a freak in the goal. I agree with you on the health thing. The problem is trying to determine to what level his health contributed vs. our horrible defense. The game that Sala told Morrow he was ready to play and Morrow took that as him being 100% showed that Dario's injury caused goals. I feel that against DC it was a small bit of that and a large part of disorganization in the back.

    My thoughts are these:

    - it took the entire team to lose that game, not just the GK
    - Sala is still not yet 100%
    - the team has an extremely important game to play in 3 days, a do or die game where the loser goes home...maybe, just maybe, Steve planned this game to let the injured have a less meaningful game to work out the kinks, knowing that a rested, ready, and capable RayJ would be available to step up on Tuesday... just saying

I concur...He was really really rusty. How long is he going to remain that rusty.

Im a fan of Sala. But he is hurting the team. You should always play the better player if you want ot win.

Its definitely the time to sit Sala at least for a few weeks. Yes he is the starter and he deserves to be, but its obvious something is holding him back. I was disappointed to see a small hoble on his way out to the goal before the game last night. He's just not 100%.

Quoting myself from Monday's practice session:
Same goes for last night, yes the defense made a couple of errors, but the first and last goals at the very least were very soft and I doubt RayJ would have had any problem with them. Sala is clearly still not fit and with RayJ playing well, he needs to sit.

    Let's see here....

    1) Gives up a 45 yard goal that isn't a chip.

    2) Gives up three goals from outside the 18.

Any goalie who does that isn't ready for action. There is no way he should have played last night. IN pregame, when he came out to take crosses, he would walk back to the area in front of the goal. It was pretty obvious then that he wasn't moving as well as he normally would.

There was no reason to start him over Burse, who hasn't let in soft goals.

All due respect to the people watching practice and their "expertise", but a rookie player like Burse has to go out and take the job from the veteran and clearly prove it in practice and games - and show coaches and his fellow players that the job is his. IF Burse didn't start, it's because he hasn't done that yet.

All due respect, but perhaps the coaches should have learned their lesson after the LA game that Sala shouldn't return to service until fully fit, regardless of what you think of Burse.

Take the job from a starter? In most instances, yes, but when your starter has given up ten goals in his past two games it is time for a change. Dario Sala does not play with any heart or emotion once he gives up a goal and merely looks to point the finger at someone else or complain of not being 100%. Likewise, Ray Burse would be a rookie if this were his 1st year, but this is his 2nd year. Young players need to be involved in the fold and then the veterans will take care of them. If you don't play them and rely on your veterans you're going to get screwed in the long run.

No "heart or emotion"? "Point the finger"? Come on, that isn't the guy we know and a pretty ridiculous statement.

I couldn't tell if he was hurt or rusty or both. If he is just rusty then you have to put in in games and shake the rust off. If he's hurt then I'd like to know the strategy in playing him.
For all of you wanting a GK switch to be permanent then I must assume you just started watching FC Dallas this summer and welcome to the fandom. Be patient and Sala will impress you with his game.

I know this soccer we are talking about. But do you remember years back in the NFL with the Pats, Drew Bledsoe got hurt and had to put in a 6th rounder in? 3 super bowls in 4 years later. Tom Brady.

Burse proved that he could play in the MLS with his starts. I am not going to second guess the coaches, they know best.

As far as the regular season goes, I prefer youth over age when it's a close call. I also prefer speed over slowness.

You are using "veteran" and "rookie" too loosely. If you used "proven world class veteran" v. "untested, raw rookie" you might have an argument.

Here, you have "solid journeyman not 100% veteran" v. "recently proven athletic rookie".

Using the term "expertise" in quotes does your argument no favours. My point exactly is that I have no expertise in the matter, and even I could see at practice that Sala looked slow and limited in his movement, while Burse was working hard and making some great saves. If I can see that, then the coaches should definitely see that. It worries me greatly that they didn't, or chose not to.

I'll freely admit to being a new fan - new to the US, MLS and FC Dallas - so it's true I don't have an appreciation for the player that Sala was. However, perhaps that appreciation is colouring your opinion of him now, because what I see is a player who looks tired and doesn't seem to be giving it his all, in stark contrast to the way he played when he first came back from suspension earlier in the season.
