A home tie is good, it gives us more of a chance to see the young/fringe players play. Newcastle should be a good test, Allardyce will no doubt see the League Cup as his best chance of silverware this year with his new team. Hopefully the young players will take what they learned in the run to the final last year on board and do well again in this competition this season. Maybe getting to the final again is too much to hope for?

I just hope that one freakish Martins shot doesn't eliminate our carling cup hopes. It is important for a lot of youngsters to get some much needed experience in the competition.

Awkward one for me, i have a brother who likes newcastle... Gotta somehow get 2 tiks for the away end and 2 tiks for our end... Just wondering how easily Geordie away tikets are available??

What is the carlin cup pricing like this year anyone know?

Business as usual. Chelsea draws a championship team, Arsenal draws a premiership team.

Our kids are amazing I think they are more than a match for Newcastle, especially at home. I reckon the Geordies will be going for it though, one of their major chances at a trophy.

OK draw...championship team would've made me very happy, but it could've been worse.

IMO, our Carling Cup team this year should be:

    -------------Fabianski-------------

    Hoyte---Djourou--Senderos---Traore

    Walcott---Diarra---Denilson---Diaby

    ---------Bendtner----Dudu--------

Problem with central defense until January. AW said he wouldn't play Kolo or Cesc in the CC like he did last year, and Connolly's at Colchester, so I guess Nordtveit will play until January?

Djourou's gone til January. I'm not really sure who to expect in there.

EDIT: Oh, maybe you meant that already.

yeah, i agree with this squad, and i would assume nordtveit will be slotted in for djourou.

i would also like to see merida get some action in the middle.

Yes for the mickey mouse cup, why not? There only a few mickey mouse cup ties before Djourou is back, im sure his 30 yr old legs can take it. And I dont actually think he'll be starting in every prem game this season anyway!

Terrible draw for the kids. Didn't want them to get kicked by Fat Sam.

Would have rather seen a Championship side but what can you do. Hopefully we sneak a win out of this.

I want to see Fran this tournament!

I'd say that lineup with Nordtveit in place of Djourou is enough to cause Newcastle some problems, especially at home.

Nordtveit wont be anywhere near the team, Song will play CB with Senderos.

Everyone forgot about Gibbs. I think he showed his worth vs Intermilan. I say give the kid a chance in the Carling Cup.

I certainly expect to see Merida, I haven't heard a THING about him all season.

Didn't Toure only get drafted in during the later stages when we had no other cover?

When we started to play against the harder teams we played Toure I think. Against Liverpool Tottenham & Chelsea he played, didn't he?

He is currently playing for Spain in the under17 world cup, from what I've read he has been their start player along with Bojan.
