Yeah, I'm with you. They're sick of looking so cheap, but instead of just not being cheap, they're making up reasons they didnt sign players.

We don't want to sign Denilson, we'll just pay for him to play for Dallas...

Sure wish there were some details. Is this how we are spending (some of? all of?) the Dempsey money? Please say a first supplemental pick isn't all we get for Dempsey.

This still has the appearance of a great amount of indecision on the REVs part, flailing actually. I know it's "just business" but I can't help wondering if these players don't feel just a bit jerked around by a club that, in some cases, seems to have dithered for months deciding who to sign.

The Dempsey money has nothing to do with cap space.

It's incredible to me what they are doing right now. This team is heading into the stretch run as one of the favirotes to win the Supporters Shield, US Open Cup, and MLS Cup. What do they do? They start shedding payroll. Unreal.

Unfortunately, he really did injure his calf.

"Cap space" is an ambiguous, elastic, and largely fictional term in the context of MLS.

It's September, the transfer windows have closed, and they have not made a major signing despite having all the tools available (except perhaps scouting) despite losing the US Player of the Year to an EPL team. Every other MLS team has made a significant player signing or trade.

    These facts speak for themselves.
The time for excuses has passed.

As much as I agree with you ... the window for non-contracted players closes on the 15th of September.

Other than that ... I'm with you. :( But remember, we're in first place. That's the important thing. The first place trophies for the last couple of months look beautiful in our trophy case!

The Dempsey money is being used to paint the grid iron lines on the field.

MLS's transfer window closed the 15th of August, not September.

Yep. I guess that's what I was saying. Looking for non-contracted players late in the season is like a low-percentage crapshhoot.

Like it or not, the team is foraging for scraps right now.

Not that I don't share the frustration, but this is the whole point of having a player clear a medical before signing him. Revolution would look worse than they do now if they signed a player who was going to miss significant time due to injury.

The irony of helping Dallas pay for Denilson is hard to swallow though.

Seriously everyone, stop complaining. You all (well most of anyways) really wanted the Revs to sign just a SINGLE player thats it. We signed 1 already and the other 2 (dusan and abdoulie) look pretty serious, stop complaining. Really. And stop bashing the draft picks. We know the FO (more like Nicol and Mariner) have a good eye for college prospects, ones that will help out as well. A good portion of this team was drafted and look where we are...1st place, oh no! I hate that spot cooties!! Ya I know we havent won the cup yet, but would you rather be in tfc/rsl/la/chi/crew/rapids/nyrb/kc situation? Didn't think so. We've signed 1 and are soon to get 2 more, now lets stop collectively sh*tting on the FO and focus on the team we have NOW.

ugg...thats like my 3rd straight rant post :(

I kinda wanna, really, in a camaraderie sort of way..agree with you.

Certainly, I've done my inordinate amount of FO bashing, I honestly and truly don't give 2 $hits about the FO...just like the ownership didn't give 2 $hits about the MLS cup game last year(Have to drag that into every bashing post I can)...but I digress!!

Yes, we are in first place, point wise..right now. And yes, we do have the best first team in MLS(FCD and DCU would argue that), but all things considered, position for position, I'd almost leave the lineup as is(DID I JUST SAY THAT?)
In any case, the real scary part of my post is this...THE BENCH..or lack thereof. I almost wish Nicol and Mariner were like 6-8 years younger and they could come off the bench and play the last 10 min of a game to either hold a lead or try and poach a goal...

The bench scares me..If we can look back at this summer of nail biting in November and say...whew..can you believe we won the....OK, getting a little ahead. It won't be because we were prudish. No one is ever going to sway me that the FO was so SMAHHT, that they not signing someone was the reason we won anything.

The reason the New England Revolution is going to win anything this year will be due ONLY to the guys that put on uniforms and are at practice each and every week...and because of the coaches that were with them during those practices...and the trainers and on-field/game support staff that did their best to nurse injuries and train them back to fitness...This will be the only reason why the REVS would have won anything...and the FO had no bearing on their wins whatsoever..sorry, that's just my opinion.
And if they don't win anything...I'll still be proud that they're the team I root for..period.

DO NOT overbash the FO - thanks to them, RevsNet can continue to exist!

ATEOTD what's a fancy dribbling Brasilian really worth, in comparison to, say... Heaven?

    My opinion also.

People are confusing assessments of the Revolution FO with those of the Revolution players and coaches.

They are separate issues, and IMO couldn't be more different.

And that's the point. That's what everyone is upset about. Well that and we couldn't find anyone better during the offseason at certain positions. Wouldn't you like to have someone that can threaten on the left for all of the 90 minutes, as opposed to ... well Khano. Wouldn't you like to not have your heart stop when you think Parky's hurt?
And if anyone's on there that doesn't feel that way, they don't belong here. Sorry, that's just how it is. I live and die by this team. I have travelled all over to see them play. No matter how frustrated I am with the team, anyone who knows me knows that I will sing for 90 minutes to get them going. But saying (paraphrasing what the Tuna once said) that the groceries aren't quite right ... doesn't make you a bad fan. It just makes you a fan that wants more out of his team.
    Bingo.

For contracted players yes. For players like Dusan, we have til the 15th of Sept because thats the roster freeze date for playoffs.

I think this is pretty clear. If a player is out-of-contract, it's not really a "transfer".

What some are pointing out is that the most fruitful portion of the year for signing impact players is long gone.

I think you're on to something here. What if MLS awarded a trophy every month? That way we could have a bunch of first place trophys for the run up to the final. :D

I'm still betting that we won't even be in the final. We are too thin to go all the way. But when you think of it, the Cup Final is only one game. A game the Krafts can't bother to attend when their team is playing in it. What's one trophy when you have all those monthly trophies?
