Not sure I know the answer to that but Wake and UNC have played in this tournament for the past several years with Wake winning Carolina's own tournament for at least the past 3 years. Maybe Elmar should watch a few more women's games.

Monmouth has a good coach who has brought the program along nicely...i dont find it surprising at all that they are able to steal results from ACC quality teams and wouldn't be surprised to see them do this on a regular basis in the next few years

Maybe he already has - or maybe the women's program was watching too much of Elmar's?

Monmouth is a very decent side, but it's also darned early for lots of teams. Probably not quite the end of the year for UNC yet...

well, if you call playing 11 behind the ball with 8 in the box good coaching, then great.

They won the game against UNC which is all that matters, but the way they did it leaves alot to be desired. I wouldn't want my kid going to a school teaching the game the way he does. 4 shots managed (16 against) while they packed it in.

It was a horrible display of soccer. Sundays game against wake they managed 5 shots, 4 of which were free kicks from 35+ yards.
The goalie was actually wasting time ten minutes into the match, with the ball at his feet near the touchline/corner of 18, waiting for a wfu player to make him pick it up. ten minutes into the match? disgusting.

I am not sure.. Although you have your opinion and that is what is great about message boards... but..

I saw a fairly even game, back and forth, until the second half goal around the 60th minute. Then i saw a lesser known team defend themselves for a victory against a larger opponent for 30 minutes. And i dont think they are the first team to play more defensive when they go up a goal to another opponent. :)

I am not a big fan of statistics telling the whole story of the game. It does show that how they had more shots, but we all know how this game is played.
Thats why we love watching it...

well.. Wake is obviously Wake. I dont know. MU is still a smaller school with lesser scholarships. I think they did more than waht they were supposed to do or expected to do down there. To me, that is positive. it is a growing program that has made good progress with their new coach.

hey.. we are here talking about them.. so that has to account for something :)

I agree. I dont think they are up there just yet. That would be making some big assumptions... but, like you, I am not surprised from the win and they are headed in the right direction.

I saw the UNC 1-1 draw with ODU. A few thoughts on Carolina - The midfield is loaded with talent, Cameron Brown looks like a big time prospect. The back line should be very good once they get on the same page. The freshman keeper looks a little tentative, but not terrible. I'm not confident in the forwards... Dworsky, Shriver and 5'4'' Ryan Johnson may not be enough to threaten the top ACC and NCAA teams.

Disgusting?, Terrible Soccer?, packing the Box?
I was at the game, were you? I know people often look at the same thing and see it differently but this is just too exxagerated to let go by without comment.
There is just no way you can say Monmouth just laid back and played defence after scoring one goal against a team like UNC, it would be ridiculous. One goal on against any of the teams at this Match up is just a wake up call that makes them angry you can't even rely on a two goal lead against this caliber team and no responsible coach would---even I know that. If you knew more about Coach McCourt and his style and the attitude of the of the team; they play with the idea of scoring at all times you would not make such statements. I think if you really looked at the game you would say the Goalkeeper that night played an incredible game and managed the team very well by continually moving them up. I have no wish to sound arrogant but your post reeks of a disgruntled UNC Fan responding with emotion rather than rational observations.

The word disgusting relates to Sundays game, especially with the GK wasting time early in the first half. How would you describe your gk doing that in the first half of a game?

I don't know about your coaches style, but I saw two games of it that weekend. Not a fan of his 'style'. Sunday was a pretty bad display of soccer. Didn't see a single thing that showed they wanted to come out & play the game. Pack it in, pack it in, GK gets it, punts it or go for a counter with the one lone forward.....whose line of confrontation was 10 yards inside his own half.

You talk about "If you knew more about Coach McCourt and his style and the attitude of the of the team; they play with the idea of scoring at all times you would not make such statements.
Ideas & thoughts don't mean squat unless they are seen on the field. No thoughts or ideas on Sunday, lets play for a tie and see if we can steal a goal. Not a fan of that type of soccer is all. So, we agree to disagree.
