http://www.westword.com/2007-08-30/news/shafted-like-beckham/#comments Well, ACH of Westword is taking his shot at Becks and the league again. I normally find him really funny, but his soccer opines are misinformed. My comment is the second one.
Biggest load of crap I've read in quite awhile. Please, give us something interesting to read. There are already 5 million columnists out there yapping about Beckham not being able to cure cancer. Sheesh, thanks for telling this knowledgable fan about it. This knowledgable fan still went to the game and felt a little sad seeing Cobi Jones take the field one last time in CO. Too bad your obsessed with yapping about Mr. Posh. You missed out on telling people about an American soccer legend.
I just read the article and I don't see what is so Eurosnobish about it. All I got from the read is that Adam Clayton-Holland is some second rate writer that couldn't get a real job so he decided to write for Westword about a sport he knows very little about but likes to pretend he knows a lot to impress the idots that call themselves editors. A boring and uninformed read IMHO
A true, or by FC's sorting method --not true fan, would know it is Fox Soccer Channel and has been for some time. A poser on the other hand would shank that one twice like he has. Also to imply that a England vs. Germany match played by England as a tune-up for do or die Euro Qualifiers no less is "a scrimmage, a game with no further implications" shows a serious lack of understanding of how things work. This is the work of someone much worse than a Euro-Snob here, a Euro-Snob poser (or would that be poseur) wannabee.
REPPED!!! Cobi Jones = American soccer legend!! got that right!!! One of 2 players that came out to sign autographs before they boarded the bus!! (Joe Cannon the other one!) I thanked him for 18+ years of gr8 soccer and gave him my "game worn" rapids scarf. "really?" was his response... and I said "only if you give us one more year" You'll be missed Cobi!!! oh BTW... ACH = dipping dot!
I was really hoping for an LA corner kick towards the end, maybe Cobi would've taken it and then he could've really heard us! I think he still did... It shows that you can be a true fan of you team AND at the same time cheer and appreciate good soccer.
What - all 5 posts that mention him? (as opposed to the approximately 5 bazillion about Beckham?) I guess they've been mentioned about the same amount of times, though. Some of us appreciate the contributions Cobi has made to the American game. Even if he did play his league ball for LA and not Colorado. Hardly a Cobi-worship thread.
Update... A lot of our replies will show up in next week's Westword (They had an avalanche of feedback from their article about the decline of newspaper comics.)
