Just watched a really great FCD TV segment, where Carlos takes us on a tour of his high-rise. What caught my attention is how fluent he is now. I'm wondering what the level of fluency of our players is (from south of the border, etc.) and how they communicate if they are still not fluent. We've had several that speak Portuguese, but that's not quite the same as Spanish, and I'm wondering if these multi-lingual issues cause some players to struggle longer or only bond with certain players. Anyway, I am thrilled to see that Carlos has come so far, because he used to really, really struggle with English, and that hurt his marketability. Toja, Ricchetti, Denilson (I know he doesn't speak English yet), Sala, etc... Can someone just give a rundown on which language each player speaks, and whether they are fluent or just learning. Some of these guys might speak 4 or more languages, I bet. Oh, and does coach Stevie speak any Spanish?
Morrow wrote on the blog the other day that there are english-spanish language sessions for the players after practice.
I don't know how long he's been learning, but I was surprised by how good, albeit heavily accented, Toja's English was when I spoke to him on Monday. Good thing too - my Spanish extends to ordering a couple of beers.
Is Morrow going to be taking English lessons? I can barely understand half of what he says (just joking)
I'm pretty sure English is Sala's 5th language. I know he speaks Spanish and Italian. I think the other two are Portuguese and maybe French.
lol nutella, classic Sala exalting. it's been missing lately, sadly... I thought the same thing when I watched that Ruiz episode, it was really impressive. I remember when LA won the Cup in 02 and seeing him give a post-game interview through an interpreter.
I know it Parrot, Sala went from franchise goalie to veteran back-up in 1 miscomunication and 6 goals... show has fickle fans can be.
