Danny will not be breaking the first team anytime soon. He just got his ass benched again in Columbus after he was arguably the worst player on the field for 2+ weeks.

Uh, maybe he didn't give a shite 'cause he had 5 suitors chasing him.

After all, DeMarcus Beasley, Bobby Convey, and Freddy Adu basically stunk their entire final seasons...their entire SEASONS...before their transfer.

He'll get it together. He'll either sink or swim there. But when he's on, Szetela could play at that level. He just needs to maintain the same level of focus, intensity and health he had at the U-20s the entire season.

I bet you give a hell of a wedding toast to. "Let's not get ahead of ourself. After all most marriages end in divorce and there will likely be many painful affairs."

this is why Columbus fans are backwards... he just signed to a La Liga club... you guys got 150gs out of it, which you all did not have to get... and he is the first American field player to sign for a La Liga player ever... yet this dude is talking down on him....

I think there's no hope of Rossi playing for us. I like to call him the American Owen Hargreaves (sp?)

Do you mean he's the first American field player to sign for a La Liga team?

Am I understanding you correctly? Because Tab Ramos played for Real Betis.

He'll be the second outfield player ever behind Tab Ramos and the third american behind Ramos and Kasey Keller.

"Real Betis won the Spanish Second and earned promotion to the First Division. While Ramos remained with Betis for the 1994-1995 season, he never played a game as he recovered from a skull fracture suffered during the 1994 World Cup game with Brazil."

I love the use of Wikipedia to confirm things.

Is this an episode of The Office?

Racing is a solid squad but, without Zigic, they'll have problems staying up.

La Primera Liga is very strong this year again.

Santander now has Danny's signing on their site! It's officially official now! I love this move. Totally threw us for a curve. A fitting ending to a crazy saga. Gotta love it. Danny's a battler and is in for a fight. He'll need time to adjust but I suspect he'll be just fine. La Liga is a great league and if he pans out this will carry him into a full national team career. He will be fun to watch.

I wish Danny good luck in Santander. I think he's going to need it considering he's playing for Racing which is a team that relies on efficient midfield play and usually play for the counter instead of attacking. Lots of things going against him: only a two year deal, arrives at the last day of the window while most of the team is already established, Marcelino isn't the most pro-International man around even though he did eventually take in Uche and Signome at Recre.

Racing did tie Barça at home last week which is a good result and it looks like their team is probably going to finish around the Intertoto spot and midtable this year. Whatever the result, let's hope he applies himself, gets better as a footballer and let the chips fall.

    rep owed!!!

I'm "meh" on the move, mainly cuz I'm meh on Danny. I really, really liked him in the U-20s, but he's never impressed me in MLS. Ever.

I kinda think it's too soon. And like the Celta Vigo fan said above, a 2 year deal puts a lot of pressure on him.

But the best of luck to him!

Being a little hard on Ives no? He's delivered a some good info (I recall many threads on this board started w/legit SBI scoops), knows & clearly loves the game, has a good sense of humor. Do you prefer Trecker? Gardner? Allen Hopkins? One of the better journalists covering MLS if you ask me.

But yeah, after linking Szetela w/everyone in England, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, etc. he was eventally going to be right. I wonder if this was just a series of leaks by Shep Messing in an attempt to pump up Szetela's value.

I don't believe Tabare ever made it to La Liga. In fact, I think he might have helped Betis get promoted only to miss out to come back to MLS. I wonder if that knock in the head in the Brazil round-of-16 game had anything to do with it. That certainly kept him out a while in that post-WC/pre-MLS period ('94-'96).

Congrats to Szetela. Good to see a guy who couldn't hold down a position w/the Crew getting a chance to play & train in one of the world's best leagues.

That is correct sir, a career prematurely ended just as it was getting into high gear courtesy of the latin lover Leonardo.
