i think the fact that peopel are trying to do something is great. but i don't think this is the right answer! we are there to support our team - not the csa! and by wearing black could make for an adverse affect on the team. wear red! be loud and be strong - show your support to the team. i would encourage large banners and signs that can hang around the stadium compelling people in teh press, hopefully on tv and those fans in attendance.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Good post, for those who have a problem with the CSA can I suggest you picket their offices and leave our National team out of it.
Supporting the CSA would just let them sit back, cross their arms, smoke their stogies and laugh at the great job their doing! The landscape of the CSA has to change. No more should be the day where kids get picked based on who's son they are. There has to be a governing hierarchy from coast to coast overseeing the development of the kids and putting whatever money they receive into the right pockets, not their own! I will support the players and their efforts. But I will not support the CSA and their antics. They must be aware that there is a new "soccer revolution" in Canada and we won't tolerate garbage. THIS IS THE TIME to re-build the CSA and start PRODUCING and KEEPING home grown talent (I know keeping is easier said than done). Cheer for our Canadians, but lets show the CSA the black hole in which they will be entering unless they clean up there act!
it isn't the players fault! Why blame them during a game I have been looking forward to forever, please don't wear black, there are much more effective things we could do like send gazillions of emails!
You aren't understanding what we are doing. In all our communications we are making it clear that the players have nothing to do with our discontent. we are actively encouraging people to watch the game and react to it like they would any other game--they are just wearing black. If we treat this like every other game then we lose the best opportunity we have ever had to send a message. If we show up like always, the issue won't be reported on. IN NO WAY IS THIS A PROTEST AGAINST THE PLAYERS. And the players are smart enough to understand that. You need to give them more credit.
The colour of your shirt will make not one difference to the outcome of the game. We are not asking for people not to cheer.
Yeah like emails ever worked. There needs to be media attention. Thats the only way the CSA will ever change. If it was up to me, we would scrap it all together and start again. CFA anyone?
I think everyone NEEDS to get behind this...I am going to be loud and wild at the game cheering on the lads to beat up on Costa Rica and solidify our 3rd place Concacaf Ranking..I am so excited to be attanding a game in Toronto for the national team. HOWEVER, I will do it in Black to send a message to CSA! Please post your support or rationalize why you would not agree with this? I could definitely be persuaded to change but so far the commentary against is not convincing. The Players we will cheer for...The CSA will hopefully see the SEA OF BLACK and we all know that would be commented on by all the major sports channels in the nation bringing national awareness to the problem called the CSA
I think I'll wear my new Blackburn Rovers away jersey - half red, half black. That way I'll be supporting the team and protesting CSA at the same time.
Okay, I've re-read what everyone was saying and what has been said on the voyageurs website, and have changed my opinion, if we are still cheering like crazy for Canada, and have maple leafs on the suggested black t-shirts this would work out great, I just didn't want to biggest Canada game in Canada for a long time to be a bust, I want a win and I want BMO to be rocking. If it is rocking for the boys and against the CSA I'm all for it.
During the Raptors playoff games against New Jersey, fans took the 'Let's Go Raptors' thing and alternated between 'Let's Go Raptors' and 'V.C. sucks' - supporting the team and jeering Carter at the same time. Perhaps we could do something similar at this game.
Another option is wear a black t over a red one. Shed the black one after the half, and presto, we're all in red. Little difficult to coordinate though..
no way! i'll be wearing red to support my team and i'll make a sign that can spell it out clearly so all of the cameras can pick it up. do you think all of the players will understand why it is that their supporters are not wearing red? not likely. this is a horrible idea that will do nothing about the csa and will probably take away from the support our team needs. silly, silly idea!
I don't know about that...When you play sports, you're usually taught to ignore the crowd. Sure it's nice when they're cheering for you, but it's terrible when they're booing you. If they do look around and see a lot of black, but they hear cheering, they might be a bit confused but it won't hurt them. As well, I think it was mentioned on Soccer Central, so it might get passed on to the team.
It is also worth metnioning that it is within the purvue of the stadium to confiscate any sign you attempt to bring in. I doubt they will confiscate your shirt if it is black... Cheers!
Players are not stupid and insulated from the web. They will hear about this through reading forums and word of mouth or someone sending them a facebook message, a friend mentioning it, etc. They know the fans are cheering Canada and are pissed at the CSA.
They will only change when they know that we support our national team. We need to cheer our team on the field and protest the CSA off the field. Their are much better ways of doing this then just wearing black
