No link yet, but Leeds have said that he rejected the offer of a loan to join Paul Ince's MK Dons, I think it is a permanant deal.

He played for Wolves' reserves yesterday. However,

The deadline day wheeling and dealing has started in earnest with striker Jemal Johnson heading for MK Dons after Wolves accepted a bid from Paul Ince’s side.

However, as you say, no mention as yet on the Dons site.

MK Dons play in League 2.

Hey, American-style team relocation, American striker. Makes sense to me.

    Go AFC Wimbledon.

Pretty surprised but he really needs a run in someones team, and it is clear he wouldn't have got that at Leeds. I am surprised he has joined a League Two club though, even the biggest one.

This is a bit of a step back - he was successful in a loan at Darlington a few years ago while still under contract to Blackburn, but that was a little while back and that helped him get the deal with Wolves. Maybe this will help him get things back on track though - maybe playing for Paul Ince will be beneficial too.

how much interest would he attract from MLS? I would guess none.

If the likes of Nicholas Addlery can start at DC United, surely SOMEBODY has to be interested. Though I suppose wage demands would be an issue.

Think its the wage issue. I know Wisey said when he was on loan that he had turned down the chance to return to the States after he left Blackburn. He'll be on a couple of thousand pounds a week at MK Dons, they are financially more capable than any other League Two club. I doubt he'd get that in the US.

He's lived in England since he was 5, so he's immersed in the English culture of football. He probably knows next to nothing about MLS, and that may not have been an option. By the way, is that true that Jemal has not received a cap for any American youth or senior team?

Adderly rarel starts for DC and works for peanuts. League 2 is a much more lucrative and, since Johnson has lived most if not all of his life in England, comfortable gig.

This kid is a YA but has seen no action for the US despite showing some effectiveness at striker for Wolves (3 goals in 14 games in 2006)? Why the relative silence about him on the NT front?

Well, a striker who finds his level at MKDons is not exactly NT material. :(

I honestly don't think this is "his level" though maybe I'm being optimistic. He's 22. He's still really young. Youth can overcome attitude issues; hopefully he can light up League 2 and parlay that into a successful career.

I look at him as Jamil Walker with actual talent. I think he can play a role on the USMNT if he just gets himself properly oriented. Hopefully Paul Ince can help do that. If he doesn't start here though, maybe put a fork in him.

We still hold out hope on Eddie Johnson, so why not Jemal?

Anyone find it funny that Johnson is called an 'American' striker, although he was only born/lived in US for 5 years (speaks with British accent and everything) WHEREAS Rossi, Adu, Szetela and a host of other players who lived here a lot longer and basically are a lot more 'American' are often referred by another country first...

Because EJ's led the MLS in scoring before. JJ's done nothing except stay employed. He's interesting to read about but he's not USMNT material.

Yeah, if EJ had no work permit issues and felt like moving to England, I think he'd have plenty of offers above the Franchise FC level.

Wait a minute ... he did.

I think the USA coaches know him, and just do not think he is good enough.

Re: Jemal Johnson joins MK Dons

    I'm sure that's true.

If I'm remembering correctly, Jemal was given the opportunity to play at the youth level with the US, but turned it down.

I agree with the sentiment that he's just not good enough. He started at Blackburn's acadamy but wasn't in their future plans so they let him go. He signs with a Championship side and scores a few goals, but ends up on the bench later in the season and is allowed to move on. Now, he signs with a League 2 side.

This is not exactly a sparkling resume. He's living the dream and I envy him for that, but just because he plays in England and ONCE was saught after by a EPL club does not make him USMNT material.

MK Dons wan 2-1 I think. Johnson played about 20 minutes at the end.

IMO, this is a great move for a player who is an undoubtedly talented headcase. Clearly his attitude has played a defining role in his failures at both Leeds and Wolves when he had the opportunity to break through.

In Paul Ince, he is working with a fiery manager who has played at the highest levels of the game. He will undoubtedly realise League 2 is a last chance saloon and I hope he takes the chance to rebuild his career.

Given the recent events that have transpired on the coaching carousel in England, does anyone think Jemal will rejoin his former coach at his old club? ;)
