I was watching the SuperLiga game last night and noticed that Panchuca's uniforms had a variety of different sponsors on them. I wonder why the MLS teams seem to only go for one big sponsor per team. Can we create more interest and money to pay players what they are worth, or entice other players to this league by getting more sponsors to put in a little bit each instead of mega bucks from one big sponsor? I'm not saying make our uniforms look like the side of a Nascar. But you would think that teams like the Crew could get some local or even national sponsorship to help sweetin the pot for players salaries. Just a thought.
That would be a fun post-game interview. reporter: Coach how do you rate the team's performance tonight in the 1-0 win? Coach: Well Rob, the Viagra, Wonder Bread, Slim Fast, Jones topsoil, Waste Management Crew had a good night tonight. I think we took it to 'em from the first Kroger opening kick. Our Magic Mountain set pieces were just a bit off, but scoring the Crazy Eddie's Discount Cars goal off of that Tumbleweed corner kick sure turned the momentum our way. By the way folks, don't forget to bring your ticket stub to Dockside Dolls tonight after the game, you'll get one free lap dance as they are our official winning goal/money shot sponsor.
With all due respect to those sports, this isn't NASCAR or MFL. You can do things tastefully, and you can overkill it.
I think we need... on the front. Hey, it's a famous local company. It might clash with the gold though.
You are right, I just couldn't help myself. The coffee was just setting in and the fog was lifting. It is sometimes refered to as the awakening. Many things of total genious and total stupidity come from that time. The hard part is deciding which it is.
Done tastefully: A logo on the sleeve, and a larger one on the lower back, similar to what MLS used to do (and what a few teams may still do.) Overkill: A CGI Budweiser bottle appearing from midfield in the moments before kickoff, CGI logos behind each goal, and putting Pepsi logos at the top of jerseys while another logo appears on the front. Take for example: Puebla, Pachuca, and Nexaca. OTOH, Chivas Girl 1, and Chivas Girl 2 seem to be a "good fit" with the Nexaca shirt.
I agree HWF, I do not like all the sponsor logos on the Mexican team jerseys. I would think sponsors would negotiate to be one of only 2 or 3 on a given jersey. With too many on the jersey, I would think that the clutter would detract from getting a business' brand out to the consumer clearly. I am a fan of a chest sponsor and shoulder sponser (either same on both shoulder, or 1 business on each shoulder). After that, I think it gets to be too much.
Actually, I think any sponsorship at all on a team's uniform is tacky. I understand that shirt sponsorship is simply a reality of the game today that isn't going to change and that not having one puts a team at a competitive disadvantage. For that reason I want the Crew to get a shirt sponsor, but I wish they didn't have to do so to keep up with everyone else.
I can't believe I'm writing this, but I already laid claim to the Viagra sponsorship. I don't think we want them taking two. Come to think of it, we will not have to have a medical staff along, you are supposed to call the doctor if the Viagra lasts 4 hours, our games are over in 2, and realistically, half of those are over by minute 45.
it's not a matter of wanting a sponsor, it's not being able to get one! this has been one of McCullers top priorities and he can't get the job done. like beating DC.
