I suggest you consider the source (The Daily Mail). I honestly think the internets would explode if The Daily Mail said/printed anything complimentary of Chelsea. They started the whole R10 rumours if I am correct as well. Joe Cole is a smart man/player. Given all the games/touranments we are in, he knows he get more than his fair share of time on the pitch
Yeah, I usually dont believe this stuff, but Cole and Mourinho have gone at it before over Cole's showboating. So I wouldnt be surprised if theyre at odds again.
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/sport...uts+Cole's+Chelsea+future+in+doubt/article.do There is one alt link, plus I have read others. The story is out and its not surprising. If Jose is Superman, then creative players with flair must be his Kryptonite. If the Ronnie rumors have any merit, you'd almost have to believe Joe Cole would be part of an offer.
its bollox, the media have nothing better to do keep in mind that both Malouda and SWP have played very well throughout the pre season and into the start of the season, whereas Joe has been less than stellar. Look it is JM- the best player gets the spot and right now it is not Joe. They have been through this before when he benched Joe for almost 2 months and it made him a better player, if anything this should make him work harder. I would almost laugh my arse off if Joe was in the starting XI vs Villa.
It's simple - Malouda is doing fairly well and needs the minutes to settle further, and SWP is playing brilliantly. That's why Cole's not playing and he knows it.
I stopped reading at the point where it said... 'He spent much of last season on the treatment table with various injuries and believes he is being punished by Mourinho for missing so many games.' Yeah, that's likely : rolleyes:
UNless your choosing Ballack in midfield last season? Or Carvalho over gallas at CB? I jest. SWP can play as well as he want to, Id choose Joey every day of the week to start, hard to play better when they other guy starts and you are just making short appearances.
I really hope this doesn't lead to J.Cole leaving the club... Chelsea can't afford to lose another winger. Of course if by some miracle Chelsea manages to get Ronaldinho, it would be a different story.
I don't know that its a lie or media creation. Joe Cole went from an integral part of the team to being injured to getting healthy and losing his place. If he isn't pissed off and frustrated, then I don't want him here. He should be yelling at Jose about playing time. Why would you believe he is accepting of his current situation? Now, that doesn't mean I think he is right. Truth is, he hasn't played well since coming back. He had one shining moment against Liverpool last year and that is it. SWP and Malouda have been better. Cole needs to work harder to get into the lineup. The question is, will he? I was never the biggest Joe Cole fan. Personally, I always felt he was somewhat overrated. As much as I dislike SWP, I am happy to see JM playing the man he feels merits the spot as opposed to playing the guy with the reputation. (Can McClaren say the same?) Cole was the "next best thing" boy wonder and the expectations on him were always immense. Cole has the skills, but can be a showboat and doesn't seem to make complete contributions when he plays. I also don't feel JM has full confidence in him. I realize that might seem hypocritical since I am such an ardent Robben supporter, but to me, Robben's strengths far outweighed his weaknesses. I am not sure I can say the same for Joe Cole. In summary, I believe the "feud" is very real, to some degree.
Have to disagree with you mike, but we have before, so I am sure you are used to it. Good post though. IMO- J. Cole was one of our best players and had an outstanding season two years ago. Last season was a tough one for him, as he suffered the knee injury on the tour of the US, and suffered a few other set backs when he tried to return to training earlier than he needed to and suffered further injuries. He still played relatviely well at the end of last season upon his return considering that he bascially missed 2/3 of the season. SWP only came on towards the end of last season and that is bascially because Glass Robben and Joe were still both out. Even during this time SWPs performances could not be labelled as anything but erratic, doing something great one minute and then making one pull out their hair the next. I agree that J. Cole needs to work to get into the team. Both Malouda and SWP are on form at the moment and IMO he will work his way back into the team. He is obviously a talented player with immense ability and I dont think JM is going to keep him on the bench for the rest of the year. As I said previously he benched him for about 2 months early in the JM days because Joe was showboating and no getting back defensively and it did Joe the world of good. As for Robben- I would have to disagree with you their ass well. When healthy they are both fantastic players- but Joe is a better all around midfielder for me. Arjen may have the edge on the attacking front, but if I had to choose between the pair then its J. Cole for me.
I think the point about Robben, (although it's a bit academic now I suppose), is that you have to ask WHICH ONE!!! The one who first arrived was fantastic but he quickly seemed to go off the boil. Say what you like about Joe but at least he still LOOKS like he's trying.
agreed Andy he never seemed to recover from the kicking by Mokeona he recieved up at Blackburn in that first season and I think that opened up several problems for him. As much as Ronaldo is a diving little sod, he seems to take a kicking a get up (although lately he returns the favour with a headbutt). IMO defenders had to be giggling when they saw Robben recoil when tackles came in. Just look at the Cup Final, Wes Brown cracked him and it really seemed like Robben didnt want to know after that.
J. Cole knows he needs to work to get in the team, that's a message Jose has been stressing to him in particular since he (Jose) first arrived. Joey is no stranger to being in Jose's 'doghouse' even if the rumours are true, and in the past he's come out and been the better player for it. We're 4 games into the season, SWP is in fairly good form and Malouda hasn't been doing half bad at all. If one of them falls out of form and Joey is still on the bench, then maybe there's something to it. Btw, I love the part about Jose punishing Joey for being injured last season. Absolutely brilliant journalism there. Perhaps we'll see Drogba benched for missing games during the ACN, then? Edit: Just saw fern pretty much covered everything I wrote in his earlier post. My bad.
I thought that was actually quite a dirty challenge and it make sense to scare off Robben right when he came on.Had Essien or Mikel done that to Eagles or any other featherweight Manyoo player he would still be rolling on the floor crying, and 'Sir' Alex would still be talking about it.
For Cole and Mourinho read Giggs and Fergie. This has been, since day 1 of their relationship, a case of Mourinho doing whatever was possible to get Cole to meet his full potential. So even when Cole was coming off the bench with match winners, Mourinho would say "not enough, he can play better". He has been nuturing the sh*t out of Cole for anyone with eyes to see. And no-one can deny that when healthy Cole is absolutely a difference maker. If he has started to showboat it in training or mail it in, Mourinho will do all he can to splash some cold water in his face. I'm not worried about this at all. On a completely unrelated note my green card came through this week after 6 years of legal bullsh*t I'm legal beeyatch
Joe Cole overrated? What? Can play 3 positions, tracks back to aid the defense, completely two footed, pretty goood pace and dribbling, phenomenal control, nice shot....... huh?
Did you see his volley in the World Cup? I think that apart from Ballack, who is as two-footed as they come, Joey is the best we have at striking a ball with his off foot.
Like most Chelsea supporters, I'm a big fan of Joe Cole. Biggest criticism: He does tend to blow hot and cold. There have been some wonderful games where he's worn through the turf with his enthusiasm and movement. Has anyone else noticed he turns the style up a notch or two for the big games? For some reason, I notice it more with JC than anyone else.
He did. But I think Cole is, in all honesty, our absolute most valuable winger. It would be SUCH a blow to lose him, much more than when we lost Robben, IMO.
