He'd better get ahold of the company that fitted Petr Cech with headgear. If Chaddy boy intents to continue, he needs better protected. A couple more and he will be forced to retire by medical advice.
With Chad being placed on the season ending IR, does that mean his roster spot opens and allows us to look to bring in someone for him without cutting another player?
From Dispatch article "Rookie Brad Evans (hip flexor) also will be placed on season-ending injury list, opening two roster spots. One will be filled by Trinidadian defender Andrei Pacheco. The other could be filled with a free agent." Found the answer to my own question. Posted in case anyone else is curious. Anyone know the story on the T&T defender?
The link isn't working btw. To answer your question X, yes. There's actually 2 roster spots opening as both Chad and Brad Evans are going on the season ending IR. SIgi was quoted as saying they "might look some".
I took Sigi's quote as basically saying they weren't going to go out of their way to fill the spot, unless something they'd already been looking at and/or working on came throgh.
First thing I'd be looking for next season is a central defender. I mean I hope Chad comes back and is able to play, but guys who are prone to concussions tend to continue to be prone to them.
Fingers crossed, maybe it's someone Schelottos been working on. I trust he's been in the FO's face demanding something get done.
"I guess you're really up shit creek." This is not good for Chad, nor the Crew as a whole. He had really been coming into form, finally looking like the Chad Marshall we all expected after his rookie year. Does anyone remember when the first concussion was that started this whole mess?
good job Sigi on not signing Ritchie Kotschau back when he was training with us before RSL snapped him up. He would have come in handy in the center right about now...
You mean Mr. 28 second Red Card... or whatever fraction of a minute it was... yeah, that would've been a real hoot to sign him back.
Yeah, the only move this development makes me (somewhat) regret is the Herron trade... considering we (in essence) gave up the ability to draft a monster-sized central defender. But that is completely hindsight (now that we have Guille, have gotten Moreno, etc)... at the time, he looked to be our best forward, and after last year, we definitely needed one! -RC
So, since we're going to/already have open roster spots...is there anyone, anywhere, to sign? I'd take a warm body over some of those we're currently using... Europe (out-of-contract)? USL1? Weren't we discussing Nelson Akwari playing with that Cleveland team?
Whatever. He played plenty of good minutes for us, including the Kotschaudinho goal @ Dallas last year. I think he is a hard worker and very verbal, and he and Gonzo are the next best thing we could have next to Gonzo and Chad. And work is no excuse to miss a game buddy, Chris ratted you out!
Hey, I'm available. Think they'll appreciate a 45 yr. old center back with no vertical jump to speak of? He really should take his time coming back. Too many of these things lifetime = needing to carry ones phone # and home addy around in ones pocket.
Agree... don't want to run into Chad 20 years from now and see him looking & talking like a boxer who fought a few too many. As much as it pains me as a fan, I don't begrudge his decision. It's just a tough situation. OTOH, the Crew management has to be better about bringing people in, ESPECIALLY when we've got open slots (see the other thread & Bill Archer's rants...). It's one thing to be frugal, it's another to shoot yourself in the foot by making your product you're trying to sell go down the tank. -RC
