I do not want to miss Saturday's game, but my boy has a soccer tournament in Austin this weekend. Anyone have any sources for TV viewing that carry Direct Kick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You might try Fado's downtown. They'll show all the EPL games in the morning and since this won't conflict with any of those (I think) they may just put it up (assuming they've paid for DK). Then again, you can just order DK on your own computer for $15 now...
Saturday night with UT football playing is going to be a challenge. Fado is good in the afternoon when no conflicts. Everywhere will be packed. Somewhere outside the core is your best bet. Heard the Tavern on Lamar/12th is soccer friendly but I would suggest mlstv.com with a good internet connection.
One other alternative...San Antonio is just about an drive south. There is a very soccer friendly pub there call The Lion and Rose Alamo Heights location 5148 Broadway San Antonio, TX 78209 Phone: (210) 822-7673 LINK to map SATURDAYS: All 16oz English pints for $3.50 Bass Ale, New Castle, Old Speckled Hen. and Boddingtons
Fado in Austin does not have MLS Direct Kick and there is no way in hell they will be showing the game on a Saturday night. There is a bar called Bagpipes. It is in NW Austin at the intersection of Burnet Road and Hwy 183. http://www.bagpipespub.com/ It is in the same center as a certain soccer store called The Soccer Post. They say they have MLS Direct Kick and I have spoken with their marketing director a few times and they are making a concerted effort to show more soccer - Euro or otherwise. I have not watched an MLS game there but I saw a couple Gold Cup games there. You can call (512) 467-8600 and ask for Meredith. She will be able to tell you for sure. You can tell her that Chris Murphy from the Soccer Post said to ask you. That is a heck of a lot less drive than going 1 1/2 hours to San Antonio. Its only 20 minutes away from where the tournament is being held. I'll be at the store all day Saturday - feel free to give me a call if you need directions. 512-454-4625. chris
Yes, the Tavern is very soccer friendly... or has been this summer. However. UT football trumps all, and while I haven't actually been there for games, I have little doubt that it will be packed with UT fans Saturday night. Sounds to me like Rovers' suggestion might be best. I'm thinking I might just take a drive up there myself.
Northside, thanks for the suggestion! Jonno, theodore, good to meet y'all. What a crappy game. One positive -- I walked into a bar jam-packed with burnt orange, wearing my FCD jersey, and the guy next to me said 'Dallas is playing DC United tonight, right?' Anyway, it was great to come away from such a crappy game with a good feeling about something. I'm looking forward to watching more games with Austin FCD fans. I hope to hell that FCD shows up next time.
