Fantastic. I have already posted my congratulations over at RPB and at U-Sector. As I said in both places, I had no idea that this was not a TFC generated banner.

You guys deserve so much credit. What you guys have done is the #1 supporter generated piece of work by far!

    Again, my congratulations!!!

Sorry - didn't see TO DEVILS original post.

Does anyone have video of this going up - seems to be the one thing missing.

I'm #13 in the top LEFT.

The pictures were taken right after the anthems, some people were still making their way to seats, getting beer, using the facilities, or were late getting to the game. There weren't a lot of empty seats during the game - but most that were I think moved to the beer garden, the south end (112, 113) or the northend (127).

Not nearly enough room in the beer garden to make up for the many empty seats... but we digress. Congrats to NEE on an oustanding display!!! Its this sort of commitment on the part of the fans that leads me to believe that the dream will not die like it did during the NASL days.

IMHO, and I think Blizzard can back me up on this, the dream you speak of never did die. The NASL died, sure, but I doubt the dream ever did.

Toronto showed the commitment to make it work. The rest of the NASL didn't.

I hear you, but towards the end there were many a match with 3 to 4K in the stands. We may not have died, but we were corpse and a former shadow of ourselves.

Not in Toronto / not at Varsity. The lowest home attendance of 1984 was 8,976 for a June 10th match against San Diego ... and yes, of course I looked it up. Bettega and Ace scored for us as we won 2-1.

The very last match, the second game of the cup final had 16,842 in attendance and it was the largest crowd of the season. We lost 3-2 with Bettega and Paskin scoring for us.

Not brilliant attendances admittedly but a far cry from 3-4k.

I saw that, good work guys!

Before i forget, seeing that at the game made me think of the giant France jersey that gets unrolled at France games. Just wondering where you guys got that made and how much it cost? I wouldn't mind working on one for the Canadian MNT...

OK Blizzard. I stand corrected. I'm probably getting confused with the CSL games. The 80's and early 90's... it's all a haze now. :)

Ace Ntsoelengoe... there was a great little player. His backheel goal will forever be etched in my mind. Your post made me look him up and I was saddened to learn that he passed away a year ago.

    Thanks for the memories Ace.

You're talking about the backheel volley against Rangers at Ivor Wynne? That was pure class and the Scots were left standing with their mouths open!

Yes, sadly, he's gone. I think it was a hear attack but I don't recall ever hearing the end of the story.

Ya, the CSL days were bad news but I was there as often as possible.

We did it ourselves. 10 of us with the donations from the group. If you don't believe me here is a link to pics of us doing it: http://www.kickabola.com/showthread.php?t=1739&page=15

It cost us around $800 dollars.

Its alot of work, but it was well worth it.
