In switzerland at 5pm BST Who do you want united to get? These are the teams that qualified last night Lazio Rangers Liverpool United cannot get Liverpool Chelsea Arsenal(if they get through which is likely) or Barcelona Inter Milan Lyon Real Madrid PSV eindhoven AC Milan could get these though the games will be not finished until tonight although the Seville-AEK Athens game will be on Monday due to the death of Antonia Puerta so they will both be in the draw. http:www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_2692635,00.html Anderlecht v Fenerbahce, (agg 0-1) Leg 2, Q3, 19:30 Arsenal v Sparta Prague, (agg 2-0) Leg 2, Q3, 20:05 Besiktas v FC Zurich, (agg 1-1) Leg 2, Q3, 18:15 Celtic v Spartak Moscow, (agg 1-1) Leg 2, Q3, 19:45 Dinamo Zagreb v Werder Bremen, (agg 1-2) Leg 2, Q3, 19:30 Dynamo Kiev v FK Sarajevo, (agg 1-0) Leg 2, Q3, 17:00 FC Copenhagen v Benfica, (agg 1-2) Leg 2, Q3, 19:45 IF Elfsborg v Valencia, (agg 0-3) Leg 2, Q3, 19:45 Rosenborg v Tampere United, (agg 3-0) Leg 2, Q3, 19:45 Shakhtar Donetsk v SV Red Bull Salzburg, (agg 0-1) Leg 2, Q3, 17:00 Slavia Prague v Ajax, (agg 1-0) Leg 2, Q3, 19:30 Steaua Bucuresti v BATE, (agg 2-2) Leg 2, Q3, 18:30 suppose revenge on Celtic would be nice after that flukey win and maybe if Ajax get through that would be a good game.
Re: Official Champions league draw Thread-30/09/07 they are not made yet since the qualifying rounds are not done. I bet the seedings will be up by tomorrow morning
Re: Official Champions league draw Thread-30/09/07 I forgot to mention stuttgart as champions of germany.
Re: Official Champions league draw Thread-30/09/07 I'm a little confused about how they're going to work AEK Athens/Seville into the draw as I was under the impression that UEFA treated the UEFA Cup equally to the Champions League as far as co-efficents go and would imagine that Seville's is at least fairly high, if not very high. Would they not have a good chance of going into pot one? Compare that to AEK who don't exactly have a good record in Europe and I'd have thought they'd be in pot three or four. Anyone know how they're specifically going to work around that one?
Re: Official Champions league draw Thread-30/09/07 This may shed some light UEFA will hold Thursday's draw for the group stage of the Champions League with one of the qualifying matches still to be played. Sevilla's second leg against AEK Athens was postponed following the sudden death of the Spanish club's 22-year-old midfielder Antonio Puerta at the weekend. So UEFA must decide how to accommodate both clubs in the draw despite the fact their coefficients mean that, under normal circumstances, the clubs would be in different seeding pots. Sevilla hold a 2-0 lead from the first leg and with a coefficient of 87.37 would be among the second seeds, while the Greek side's coefficient of 36.41 would place them in the bottom group of seeds. It is likely that UEFA will decide that in the unlikely circumstances that AEK overturn Sevilla's first-leg advantage they would assume the Spanish club's position among the second seeds. Sevilla, the UEFA Cup winners, are expected to confirm that they will play in the Super Cup match against Champions League winners AC Milan in Monaco on Friday night. UEFA general secretary David Taylor told uefa.com: "The draw will take place on Thursday at 1800CET - as scheduled. "There are additional complications this season related to the tragic and unforeseen circumstances that caused the postponement of the AEK Athens v Sevilla match. "This means that both clubs will be 'provisionally' entered in this season's competition."
Re: Official Champions league draw Thread-30/09/07 Dude, you guys are a whole month in advance. I know it is silly, but the thread name threw me off. It should be 30/08/07.
No matter what, here comes the seedings. 2007/08 UEFA Champions League Group stage draw - 18.00CET, Thursday POT 1 AC Milan (ITA, holders) A FC Barcelona (ESP) B Liverpool FC (ENG) C FC Internazionale Milano (ITA) A Arsenal FC (ENG) D Real Madrid CF (ESP) B Chelsea FC (ENG) D Manchester United FC (ENG) C POT 2 Valencia CF (ESP) E Olympique Lyonnais (FRA) F FC Porto (POR) Sevilla FC (ESP) / AEK Athens FC (GRE) E/M PSV Eindhoven (NED) AS Roma (ITA) G SL Benfica (POR) H Werder Bremen (GER) I POT 3 Celtic FC (SCO) J FC Schalke 04 (GER) VfB Stuttgart (GER) I FC Steaua Bucureşti (ROU) PFC CSKA Moskva (RUS) Sporting Clube de Portugal (POR) H S.S. Lazio (ITA) G Olympique de Marseille (FRA) F POT 4 Rangers FC (SCO) J FC Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) K Beşiktaş JK (TUR) L Olympiacos CFP (GRE) M FC Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) K Fenerbahçe SK (TUR) L SK Slavia Praha (CZE) Rosenborg BK (NOR)
It looks like there are some hard teams in POT4 this year. Preferred Group Manchester United Werder Bremen FC Steaua Bucureşti Rosenborg BK From POT2 I'd take either Werder Bremen or Benfica. Both have lost quality over the summer but we have faced Benfica enough times the last few years. Bremen without Klose are not as much of a threat. From POT3 Steaua gets my vote. They are improving but should not pose a problem for us. They showed last season that they are not yet good enough to trouble the big teams. Celtic and Sporting are two other teams that I wouldn't mid since I think it would be entertainig matches. POT4 is a frigging minefield. There are only two teams that I'd like to face and thats Prague and Rosenborg. Rosenborg wins it by a nose because I know more of them than abour Slavia. Rangers is a dark horse The "Rather Not" Group Manchester United Valencia CF CSKA Moscow FC Shakhtar Donetsk POT2is as always very hard. Many teams in there you do not want to face. Valencia stand out because I think they would suit us very badly. They are organized, work hard and are very lethal going forward. But Lyon, Sevilla, Porto, Roma, all very good teams. POT3 seems to be a group where noone really stands out, Most sides are good though. Historically we have had trouble playing against Italian opposition and Lazio could trouble us. Marseille is a good side but so are the two german sides but I really don't want to have to go to Moscow in the middle of winter to play a very gifted CSKA side. POT4 is as i said a friggin minefield. There are 2 away trips to Ukraine in there, as well as 2 trips to Turkey and I really don't want those. No matter what that will be a very very hard away trip. Shakhtar and Fenerbace stands out out, but the possible away trip to Ukraine in january tips the scale. Olympiakos have been around for a while and know what they are doing too.
PSV Eindhoven, Steaua Bucharest and Slavia Prague would work for me. After what went on last season, probably best to avoid a group of Roma, Marseille and Rangers.
does anyone think that it looks really competitive this year as there are not as many lameduck teams this year? I do hope that united get teams that actually want to attack rather than the likes of Lille because it suits us more to get that type of team.
