That's a joke, right? Because the school districts and colleges give them money. The Galaxy get to schedule a certain number of mid-week games during the school year. This SuperLiga final was not one of the scheduled dates so they have to limit attendance. And it would not have been even if the Galaxy had asked for it since it is not only during the school year it is during the first week of classes when there is the most traffic on campus. In exchange for this Cal State-Dominguez Hills helped build the stadium not just with money but with land that is in scarce supply in Los Angeles. It's is easy to say don't make the deal but sometimes the alternative is no stadium.
Sweet!! Just quotin so people can see it. Hopefully me and kat_antilles won't be the only ones there Vamos Pachuca! (those SOBs...)
I understand Sir. but isn't a deal reciprocal?? didn't those dope smoking, strike asking and class ditching hoodlums at Cal State-Dominguez Hills get tickets and stadium out of the deal too?? So is it too much to ask that when the team that put half the money for such stadium get to play whenever a date requieres it??? p.s. I'm serioux as a heart attack
Yeah, I remember reading about this in previous years. I actually think the school has been pretty good about working around the agreement, IIRC, but this time it is right during the first week of classes so that made it harder. MLS and the LA Galaxy got the land for free out of this deal (at least that's what I remember), along with additional money from the school. It was actually a pretty sweet deal for LAG/MLS. Having said that, it is frustrating when something like this happens. But I agree with dynamofan, if LA really wanted to be able to fill the stadium, it would seem that there's lots of ways they could have negotiated that (Shuttles, just limit the number of parking spaces and require the rest of the fans to park offsite and walk, etc). I suspect that LA was worried about not being able to fill the place up and took this opportunity to cap the attendance, and blame CSUDH for it. But then again, I'm from Northern California and we always think that Southern Californians are up to no good
With as many problems the TSU athletic department is having, they might not have any teams to play in said stadium. But I digress. Go Pachuca I guess. I hate you but at least I won't have to hear nonsensical LA fans running their mouth should they win. Besides, if LA loses (and loses big) Lalas is just stupid enough to fire Yallop Thursday and then SJ can hire him...which would make me happy for a number of reasons. That said, if Beckham and Donovan play, I don't think LA will get run out off the field and they could pull a result similar to the last time they played Pachuca....getting outplayed but getting the win. These are the type of games Donovan lives for and Beckham has proven to me in the short time he has been here that he is committed to the cause in games like these.
Pachuca 6 LA Galaxy 1 Beckham red carded for retaliating when a Pachuca defender hacks him from behind...this game could be ugly for LA...IMO they don't have the depth, defense, or desire that keeps the Dynamo so close in Pachuca matches...
Pachuca to win. It will either be a drubbing something like 4-0, or be say 1-1 at full time and Pachuca win on penalties or extra time whatever they do in the final.
If pachuca wins by less than three it should be considered a loss. We saw the true championship last week, and I hope pachuca(as much as i can't stand those bastards) clean up on LA. If Beckham doesn't play (as Around the Horn on ESPN was speculating today), up it to at least 5-0.
The game isn't showing up on the local TV listings . . . What gives? Anyone know if it will air here or not?
Whilst I think Pachuca will win, I agree with your comments about wanting Galaxy to win. No matter what I might think of any other English team, I always support every English club that plays in European competition like the Champions League or UEFA Cup. Plus it would surely benefit the MLS as a whole if Galaxy won and it was seen by the American media that US teams can compete and beat Mexican teams.
True, but the only team that is worthy competition for Pachuca in this competition is the Dynamo. The Galaxy are just not a very good team, and that's being kind.
I wouldn't trust any soccer information that comes from that show. Woody Paige actually said "They've had goal keeping problems since they traded Kevin Hartman" when he was trying to explain that LA had no players around Beckham and Donovan.
I really feel bad about this. When we played Pachuca the other week, I remember some LA posters wishing us luck and all, and I remember afterwards some telling us how well we did and that we should have won. But I just can't wish LA good luck, I just would absolutely hate, hate, hate for them to win. For one thing, we would never hear the end of it, much like if Dallas were to win the USOC. And for another thing, they just plain don't deserve to win, they shouldn't have beaten the Tuzos the first time, they were horrible against Dallas, and they've played terribly in their league games elsewhere. And on top of all that, I really like Pachuca, I just wish we could beat them. And, honestly, I wasn't all that happy with them after our last game. ¡Vamos Tuzos!
Well, the "SummerBreeze"'s ace writer, Billy Witz, has, perhaps, let his wishful thinking get in the way of the facts, if it even matters to him. I've never done halucingens, but I've been broke, so there is an explanation for his puke. The late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson could shut down pitiable writers like Billy with a single sentence, which is a gift. In the Galaxy's report, Beckham, along with several other key players, is listede as "probable", which, to me, has always meant probable. "Doubtful" start with a "D" and has an entirely different meaning. No other publication, available to the public, has Beckham out of the game.
Beckham shouldn't play, some of those Pachuca players are going to be going after his ankle if he is on the pitch.
A todos los que aman y sienten el Futbol, el juego del Hombre esta por comzar. Looks like Donovan and Beckham will start but hurt... http://www.mediotiempo.com/concacaf/superliga/2007/ficha.php?id_partido=20193 And we have begun !!!
LA can win this if their D steps up, with Donovan and Beckham you can 'prolly count on one goal from LA. Of course, the trick being stopping Los Tuzos from scoring...which ain't easy. I'm tired, so hopefully this is over in the first 30 mins.
Seems to be a pro Pachuca crowd with the Tuzo and pluto chants. stadium looks bad with empty seats. Cacho missed a good chance to score. 6' 0-0
After 10 minutes, I feel the need to make a prediction. LA puts up a fight but loses in extra time. I can't decide if it will go to penalties or not but I think it will definitely go past 90 minutes.
