    Randomly selected the names

    Here is the order

    1) ForeverRed
    2) voyager
    3) sch2383
    4) Ismitje
    5) SirManchester
    6) taosjohn
    7) frasermc
    8) Iceblink
    9) JeremyEritrea
    10) Panfilo
    11) Toon³
    12) Dr. Know
    13) GringoTex
    14) Matt in the Hat
    15) Claymore

Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 will go 15 to 1. So, Claymore will draft twice at the end of the first round. 10 rounds total.

    Rules:

    1) Albums must have been originally released on or after 1/1/1980.
    2) Albums that sample pre-1980 albums are allowed.
    3) No greatest hits albums and the only compilations that are allowed must inlcude all original releases.
    4) Every genre is fair game.
    5) PM the next drafter once you post your pick.
    6) 8 hours to make your pick.
    7) While discussing other people's picks, please don't mention any undrafted albums/songs/bands. If you do, I'll edit them out of your post. Once a band/album/song is drafted though, it's OK to mention them.
    8) As a courtesy, if you are going to be unavailable for an extended period of time, please try to PM a few proxy picks to someone not involved in the draft so they can draft for you. It's not a rule but just a suggestion that'll keep it moving.
    9) The winner will be the person who receives the most votes from their fellow drafters at the end. Everyone will submit first, second and third place votes. Five points for first, three for second and one for third.

What release date are we using to establish 1/1/1980?

Thread's been up 12 hours-- but its possible only six of us knew it was starting. Seems a bit extreme to skip the very first choice?

    U2 - The Joshua Tree 1987

I think this is the right album to kick of this draft. The album encompasses everything great about U2 including the political messeges they have come to be known for as well as a blending of genres and creating cinematic-esque atmospheres through their music. Just a classic.

Whichever came first doesn't matter if it was UK or US.

    Brilliant

I remember I was 13 the first time I heard it. People were surprised that I was listening to it, because its not something 13 year olds listen to especially in the late 90s. But then again this album is not like others.

Figured that would go first... it'd be around 12 or 14 for me but a worthy choice nonetheless. Their first great album.

The eight hour rule is might be going to suck for me-- my time might be entirely while I'm at work, and on this draft its going to be tough to proxy for the first few rounds-- I'm gonna need to see what other folks have taken...

Damn damn damn. I had hope we'd go with the US release date, meaning I could pick London Calling (1st week of January, 1980).

Figured that one might go first. Oh, well.... Here's mine, from 1989:

Nine Inch Nails is not something I listen much at all anymore, but at the time it was routinely blasted at full volume. Nothing like it back in the day, and is still among the most groundbreaking, IMHO.

    Doolittle - The Pixies

Not just an album for fans of Husker Du and Peter, Paul & Mary, Doolittle is the best album from the most influential band in the last 25 years. We all know how Cobain felt about the Pixies and Thom Yorke has said "the Pixies had changed my life.” And you know, this album just sounds really ********ing cool.

Fun fact: My uncle vaguely knew Joey Santiago and Frank Black and was at the first Pixies show at UMass (before they were the Pixies).

Guess I'm going to have to pick the Argentine rockers earlier in the draft.
