Is Tim Hanley now as depressed as Frank Yallop apparently will be if/when he soon gets let go by the fallacians? :(

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

Tim left for "personal reasons." I'm betting that those were a desire to come home and get out of the filth that is El-Lay! :D

So hopefully, we get Tim back. He's a great GK coach and that will go a long ways towards giving us a good defense!

I'm betting that Frank gets the sack within two weeks.

    Cool!!!!

    GOOOOOO QUAKES!!!!!! :D :D

Bet on it that he returns to the Quakes as the GK coach or in some other capacity.

Yallop's job would be contingent on tonight's Superliga and probably the next few league matches--the Quakes brass are watching with baited breath--they need to pick a head coach within the next several weeks or so.

Isn't his family in Palo Alto? It would be great to have Tim back!

Tim's a great goalkeeping coach, a really nice guy, and would be a perfect addition to the new edition Quakes.

That's what I don't get. Shouldn't they already be interviewing candidates (maybe they are...what with the local news coverage and all)? Also, per the league's new hiring policy, aren't they required to interview candidates (particularly minority candidates)? They can't just take Frank after he's fired (and he will be fired).

I always love reading his NASL stories and how Peter Short hated American players.

These policies are just window dressing. Wolff and Co. will hire whomever they damned please.

As I remember, Tim was one of the comforting and soothing voices on this board soon after our Quakes were ripped from our hearts.

I for one would be thrilled to see him back with the team and back on our boards!

With his history, he is truely one who is representative of Earthquakes soccer.

Agreed also. Tim Hanley is one of the best (if not the best) goalkeepers coaches in the league. It was my impression that he went to LA because Frank was there. The fact that he quits tells me Frank cannot be far behind. Let's promise them that we will meet them at the airport with hoses to wash the Scum off. :D

I'm sorry for Tim having to make this career "shuffle" and I truly hope that the "personal reasons" are not for any trying or tragic reasons for him or his family.

Like all of you, I hope that the "personal reasons" were because he WOULD like the opportunity to come home and coach--to be near his family in Palo Alto again, now that the Quakes are back and the possibility exists. Clearly, we would have a limo waiting for him at the airport!!!

Can't beat the man's track record--Cannon (2 Keeper of Year awards) and Onstad (another 2.) Also, I see Jon Conway is getting some action in net with NYRB now, another Hanley protege. Tim is CLASS and I, too, remember his voice of reason talking us all off the ledge when the Quakes were ripped from us 2 years ago. He is an asset in so many ways and LA didn't deserve him.

Tim...if you are reading this...I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do. I hope and PRAY that choice involves the Quakes!!!

I find it curious that there is nothing about this in the news on the Galaxatives' site or MLSNet.com.

Yeah, I'm hoping that the "personal reasons" are just that he's fed up with the Gals circus in LA and wants to come home. If so, hopefully one coaching position for the Quakes - filled.

Seems like a nice guy and he has some nice rings. But he was around when we piddled away Joe Cannon, got nothing for his return, brought in Pat Onstad and stuck with him through thin and thinner.

P.S. Onstad's seems to be better now than he ever was with the Quakes, esp after being challenged by Wells.

Tim ran a training for our AYSO coaches and older gks in 2005. I am pretty cynical about training in general because in my jaded experience it tends to involve way too much talking and posturing by the presenter, but Tim was just outstanding. Not only was he really funny, he engaged the audience and gave us a lot of good and useful tips.

Because I was the de facto organizer of the session, I walked him to and from his car and did the typical fan drooling thing. He had no attitude, and even seemed surprised that we were all excited about getting to work with the famous Tim Hanley.

Just a super nice guy, and I hope we get him back.

Umm, hate to challenge you, but wasn't it Onstad in front of whom the Quakes won the 2003 MLS Cup and the 2005 Supporter's shield? Do you have a problem with that sort of performance?

Yes, I'm sure Tim Hanley was deeply involved in Cannon's contract negotiations. And then he stuck with Onstad while he won Goalkeeper of the Year twice! Crazy!

"We" did not piddle away Cannon. That was MLS refusing to even talk to him about his contract until it expired. That was MLS trying to dismantle our team because they wanted the evil, cheating, league-favored, water-stealing, smog-breathing galactofilth to win MLS Cup. Bastards! That was the same year that we lost Barrett and Conrad. We lost Graziani that year too, but we knew we'd lose him when we signed him.

Tim has been a great keeper's coach and a good friend on these boards for many years.

    I want Tim!!!

    GOOOOO QUAKES!!!!!! :D :D

As I recall the Cannon departure, Joe had expressed an interest in trying Europe at that point in his career...which he did with RC Lens in France. He stayed a year. I don't know if he saw much time but I remember reading somewhere that he said he learned from the experience.

Tim had nothing to do with Joe's departure, as near as I could tell. From the couple of conversations I've had with Tim Hanley (with me being a totally anonymous Quakes fan,) he was very pleasant. Wish I had him as a next door neighbor! He doesn't strike me as the sort that would have said anything to Joe except maybe "If it has always been your dream to play in Europe then go try it, but know that you'll be missed here."

...and, yes, Tim Hanley is the man who then set about rounding Onstad into MLS Cup form.

If Tim wants the job, GET HIM BACK PRONTO!!! (Maybe "the Mayor of San Jose," Joe Cannon, might want to leave the LA circus to come back here, too?!?) ;):)

I remember that Johnny Moore told us that they (the staff including Tim Hanley) were not happy with Cannon's departure to Europe. They wanted him to stay with the Quakes. Remember when Johnny told us at the Brit about certain players listening too much to their agents? That was after one of those, "Why did Cannon get let go?" kind of questions.
