Why make Billions when you can make... millions? MUHAHAHAHAHA! MUHAHAHAHAHA! MUHAHAHAHA!

  3. Anyone else find the Carson Daily Breeze to be constantly negative towards Beckham? They even resorted to the misguided Nasl/MLS comparison. Also, hasn't Beckham already paid for himself? They infer he hasn't.

Well I would imagine Beckham has paid for himself this year yes. He still has a couple more to go.

I seem to remember Liewike saying he has already paid for his entire contract. MLS was only on the hook for 32 million and the jersey sponsorship alone was like 25 million. He will have paid for himself multiple times over when all is said and done. The biggest benefit isnt even monetary but more for what he did for publicity and ownership interest. I don't think you can put a price tag on that.

Very true, there are now people aware of MLS from around the world where before they didn't even know there was a league here. Its put the word soccer into the mouths of some unsavory "sports reporters" who have taken it upon themselves to root out the "evil" that is invading America. lol!

If it sells papers, I doubt they care. Only when that negativism backfires will they report reality.

Sometime somewhere regular folks in the US (not soccer fans who obviously know) will begin to realise that....

the evil in sports huh? Vick, Marbury (could be argued that its half the NBA), and steriods should be above soccer. Guess MLS is getting more attention than is even deserved.

Maybe I'm weird, but I find it kind of odd that SuperLiga seems to make every opportunity to mention the million dollar purse in the promotion of this final.

If the ballyhooed figure of 700,00 MLS jerseys is true, Becks has paid for the next five years already! (And he gets a jumbo chunk of at least his own #23, so there should be no complaints on this from anybody involved).

....yea, LA is so much better. Anything chiding Becks won't be read at all. Sure.

I'm sure there are a few reasons why the Breeze continues to print anti-Becks articles.

“We have bent over backwards to help everybody but the Galaxy,” Lalas told Yahoo Sports. “A lot of people have made a tremendous amount of money on the back of what the Galaxy has brought to their markets this year, and I hope that they remember that going forwards."

For a man that has played at the International level, Lalas sure desires to go back to the days of AYSO ball when things were so fair to all that played.

Money is for AEG. From a Texian Army standpoint we will love the 3 points your club will offer up when LAG comes to Houston.

Much Lousy Soccer: exactly why we don’t give a hoot about its wellbeing - The Times

Sort of a strange article - some guy whining about all the coverage MLS now gets in Britain. But to me the more interesting thing was his impression of the league which is almost solely extrapolated from his impression of the embarrassment that is the current LA Galaxy. Makes you wonder if having the international spotlight on the Galaxy hasn't hurt MLS's reputation - perhaps severely.

If it is positve press- thank Beckham

If negative - focus on the Galaxy should be blamed.

    Parity, um...what?

I'll somewhat defend this article.... even though it is mostly a snob's crappy attempt at dismissing MLS....For one, this is exactly how i feel about the EPL, not because it is a crappy league -it is not, just unwatchchable for long stretches :D - but because of the top leagues, i'd much rather watch Bundesliga and La liga..... But the reason that keeps me watching EPL more often than i'd like to is precisely because i wish to follow Americans in the EPL.... so in that regard i kind of "get" how he feels about Beckham and MLS...

As to playing him injured..sure it is galactically stupid -pun intended- but haven't the Real Madrid galacticos do the exact same thing in the past w/o as much bitching -what the guy wrongfully calls "bs detector"?

And i'm not going to take abuse from a follower of a league that allows shenanigans like Tevez transfering and saving a club from relegation...or tapping up of players..and other bs like that..... or whose refs have in the past given the same player 3 yellow cards in a slightly more important match than an EPL "fixture"... or whose English players at NT level -all of whom except one, guess who? come from said league- play like absolute crap more often than not.....and i have not even mentioned Zat Knight ;)

and to think England league's current format and structure are not that old, and has been greatly helped by:
    MOney
    Foreign stars

But letting MLS do the same?similar and understand its shortcomings while not completely ignoring its great promise and potential..... NO way an English dude could ever accept that !

but the league will want that attention there in LA (or anywhere it can get it).

because perhaps the Galaxy will be able to defeat Pachuca (again), and the spotlight (that easily follows Beckham around) will be beneficial for the league.

If Pachuca squashes the Galaxy like a bug, which I'm expecting, it's all the more fuel for the fire.

    of course.

but LA does have the home-field-advantage (in theory), and some of those 12,500 fans could be cheer for (and not against) the Galaxy, in theory.

yes, LA could win or lose the game tonight, but regardless - everything that LA does or doesn't do is now magnified and has the spotlight on it, because they have signed Beckham.

and overall that's a good thing for the sport and league here. attention is good, even if some of the attention is put on some bad aspects/performances.

Is Blanco getting this kind of scrutiny in Mexico? I don't think there's a Blanco in the Windy City program but he didn't come here without a murmur.

    Just curious.

It's simple really. He came here when all of Mexico was in disgrace because of a match their national team lost. Can't seem to remember who they played though. Oh well.
