Should the Galaxy get a spot in Superliga 2008 if we win tomorrow?

The Galaxy should be allowed to defend their title.

You speak as if they'll win it...

    Beckham is out.
    Landycakes isn't 100%

    Pachuca will win this 4-0

At what point does Superliga become a sought after cup rather than an overpaid exhibition. Galaxy did not deserve to be in it this year, and they don't deserve it next.

If superliga wants to be the prestigious competition, like the champions league, it should be based on merit, not politics.

Overpaid exhibition? You know, that is exactly the kind of negative bullshit that's going to kill the Superliga. The only way this thing will because prestigious is if the fans get behind it. If the fans get behind it, the club will get behind it and take it seriously. If more clubs do that, the cup will become more valuable and we'll get to watch more exciting soccer.

Also, who here has watched the Superliga and been entertained by it?

Anyone who has watched SuperLiga knows that the teams certainly aren't treating it as an "exhibition" (well, maybe Club America did against the MLS teams) -- there has been been as much intensity as I've seen in any match involving MLS squads.

I'd hoping that LA is really up for this game (since it's really the only meaningful game they have left this season) and Pachuca takes them for granted. If Cannon has a great game, they might just be able to pull it out... and I think LA winning is ideal for the competition.

I'm kinda bummed that Houston didn't win against Pachuca. Not only because it would have been nice revenge for the Dynamo but because I'd rather have seen an all-MLS final and ensure an MLS team winning the trophy than having Pachuca win the competition.

Absolutely Agree seeing how the first 4 teams were invite only when other more qualified teams were left off the list. Galaxy got a free pass because they got Beckham and are run by AEG, that is all. It had nothing to do with there play on the field. In 2005 they barely made the playoffs and had a good run in the playoffs to win MLS cup, last year they failed to make the playoffs, this year they will fail to make the playoffs again. They have no business being in any international tournament representing MLS win or lose.

You are correct. However… Liverpool did qualify for the champions league the year they won it. The galaxy got into Super Liga by some Mickey mouse bullshit. Seriously… they got in cause they won MLS cup 2 years ago ? Get real… That is the major difference between the two.

Yeah, that just about sums it up. Pretty ridiculous for the other owners to allow them to do that.. Don Garber loses major credibility with me for allowing them to basically get what they want though. The more they do things like this, the less I can take this league seriously.

Yeah.. Since they pretty much took our spot this year, I can completely see them getting our spot next year.. There are only two possible ways for us to get into Super Liga next year. Win the East / Win the entire MLS table… or win MLS cup. If we are second in points behind someone in the east they will take the two teams from the west, the top table team from the east, and slide the galaxy in there because they won MLS cup 3 or 4 or 10 years ago.

You mean like how the Revolution Finished 3rd with 48 points behind DCU and FC Dallas last year?

Didn’t they beat Pachuca already in the group stage? I don’t think they will take them for granted.

the galaxy shouldnt get a spot in the USL-1. I geuss they could play in the PDL next year against my hometown Fort Wayne Fever but that's about it. they are an embarrassment to the mls right now.

Let's hope that sometime in the near future a promotion/relegation system is put into effect so teams like Galaxy aren't allowed to run around at the top level and embarrass the league.

We're going to have to ask you to remove your allegiance to DC United.
It is never... NEVER... acceptable to actively root for LA.

Pachuca is currently the best team north of South America, when they win, it will be because they deserve it.

I always, 100% root for MLS teams in international competitions. No questions asked.

My key allegiance is to MLS and US Soccer. I love DCU and hope they him the MLS Cup every year, but I think the most important thing is to watch soccer grow in the US. Having an MLS team -- especially a bad one like LA -- win a tournament that features top FMF teams is good for MLS and US soccer. It earns (some) respect and international credibility. It will quite possible help to expand the fanbase of MLS among Mexicans in the US.

I'm more than happy to see LA wallow in the crapper in the MLS standings, but I'll gladly root hard for them tomorrow night.

Who ever thinks the Galaxy will win tommorow is on crack!!!! The only reason the galaxy won the first game is well there are 2 reasons.

First one Pachuca could not get ball in the net they attack the entire game.

second their Mexicans players from the National team did not play in the first game. So yes this will be ugly.

The only was I see the Galaxy coming up with a win is if Pachuca does not show for the game or if they all get sick.

Well.. looks like Pachuca didnt dominate the galaxy.. hell it took 6pks to finish it up with LD choking on the game winner. Pachuca is in season form, the galaxy are in last place.. I think MLS could be on par with Mexican teams now :)
