Hi all...I just got home from the ceremonies. It was a great time. By tomorrow night, Tuesday at the latest, I will have pictures up and video highlight of all the main parts of the speeches at the induction ceremony - there were a lot of tears. The tape is my personal one, so it may be a little choppy here and there! But, as a recap I can say that it was a fun day and all went well. The crowd was much larger than I ever would have expected, and At-A-Glance Field was packed well beyond even its temporarily expanded capacity. Mia still looks great, and girls still mob her and Julie for autographs like there is no tomorrow. One thing that made my day great is something I have to share because it is just too funny. I wore my Cobi Jones 2004-2005 Galaxy kit up there today and a reporter for the show on FSC, David Beckham's Soccer USA snagged me to talk to me about Cobi. She said they were getting footage to use at the end of the season for his retirement. So, I spoke with her on camera for a good five minutes in front of the hall of fame. Now, I am a young white guys with a basic short hair cut, just wearing my Cobi jersey. After the interview, this woman with a southern accent and her whole family come up to me and ask for my autograph and start talking to me about how they went to the LA-NY game, and I am baffled. I didn't understand, so I just sign my real name on this piece of paper, and then she tells her husband to get a picture of their daughter with Cobi Jones!!!!!!!!! I just went - "Uhhh, I am not Cobi Jones." The woman goes, "Oh." in a stunned voice and asks me a series of questions afterward trying to figure out who the hell I am. My friend and I have not stopped laughing since. Absolutely astonishing. I can't even imagine how you would ever confuse me with Cobi Jones, especially after she stood around listening to my interview where I spoke ABOUT Cobi and then stated my name for the camera. It is kind of a "you had to be there" moment, but it was the funniest thing I have ever been a part of. Wow. Anyway, I'll get those pictures and that video up tomorrow or Tuesday, but for now I am going to bed.
Lol thanks for sharing your experience 'Cobi'. That woman was too much. I'm glad the turnout was massive. Did you go to the game too? How did Mia and Jules play? Anyway, can't wait to see your pics. Oh and I can't tell what the babies look like. The screen is too blurry, but they have very dark features.

From what I can tell, and the Ispi picture is a much better look at them, they look just like Mia did when she was a baby. *goes to hunt down Mia baby pic for comparison*
I just returned from the Hall of fame ceremony, but a glitch in post lost everything and I am too tired to retype it I will try tomorrow - It was a blast
I did go to the game, but it was more of a spectacle. There were hundreds of little girls crowding the benches for autogaphs, which I actually have some funny video footage of if it ever works for me.... Mia and Julie didn't do a whole lot, as expected. Not "didn't do a whole lot" in that they were bad, they just didn't play an immense amount and obviously they are retired and out there just having fun, so it wasn't something that they were going 100% on. There were a lot of familiar faces on the field. Welsh obviously plays for the Freedom, but Tiffany Roberts, Carla Overbeck, and some 1986 national teamers played as well.
We drove up Friday night, My Daughter was taking the 2 hour clinic saturday For 10 bucks they gave you a mini ball, 5 dollar coupon for Dick's sporting goods, keychain and few other nick naks Toured the hall, got some nice pics and some souvineers, but it was a really hot and muggy day Arrived back at the hall sunday at 9:30 scoped out a good place for the ceremony, went back in the hall, I had my 2 year old in a stroller so we had to use the elevator to get to the top part of the hall, this took us through the VIP area and Carla Overbeck was there in her Red hall of fame jacket, pretty cool, we walked by her without bothering her and into the hall after about 15 minutes, Carla came into the hall of fame and was signing autographs, we did not bother her for an autograph but we did bother her for pictures she tried to coax my youngest to take one with her, but my youngest did not want to Attended the ceremony and it was really nice, exccept for the people who decided to stand on the chairs in the VIP area directly in front of us At the game we got pretty good spots on a slope near the freedom bench... all these little girls kept going in front of us and standing at the fence, we had to keep telling them to sit Mia was Mobbed as usual once she started signing and did not move from behind the freedom bench, then they took out in a minivan after signing for about 10 minutes Julie also signed for about ten minutes As they were introducing both teams, I was surprised that so many players I knew were playing, some from the NJ Wildcats championship team, a former charge player, some players that should be on the WNT (Christie Welsh and Joanna Lohman) After the game I got to talk to a few players and my daughter got some autographs (DeCicco, some of the 86 players, some of our girls from NJ) Anyway Freedom won 2-1 in a game that was more fun than competitive, both goals by Welsh. Footnote: Julie looked good and could probably play at the W-League or WPSL level still, I don't think she stopped smiling the entire time on the field Mia miffed a perfect chance to score, I have to check if I caught it on video One of the player yelled SH! T on the feild, it was the funniest moment of the game Oncew Mia and Julie left, the majority of the crowd left and the rest of the game was fun to watch.
pICTURES ARE UP, IT WAS A HACK JOB AND i DID NOT REDUCE THE PHOTOS So Veiw using IE so you can see the pictures http://mysite.verizon.net/vze80pxf/soccer_hof_07/ http://mysite.verizon.net/vze80pxf/soccer_hof_07/
Chargefan: Are you positive it was 2-1? I left early to beat the crowd (though I ended up having my above story happen and that took time), but when I called to confirm the final score the employee at the hall told me it ened 2-0. Also, I believe Mia was the one who cursed, which was why everyone found it so funny.
Yep the reds scored after the second half (70th minute ?) and the Freedom Keeper was injured on the score
Wow, yah think the employees would know the score! Well, that will be inaccurate in my video, but know biggy. It is FINALLY up and running after numerous problems. I had to divide it into 6 parts due to time problems. All the parts are labeled with who is talking, so skip to what you want. It is primarily Mia and Julie but honors all. If you want a good laugh (at least I found it a funny), go to part 6. Here you go: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Enjoy
OMG!!! Thank you COBI!! I really wanted to see all of the speeches. And maybe it's because she's not there but both Mia and Julie not thanking April Heinrichs seems a little harsh. She did help them win their last Olympic medal.
