Sevilla and Spain midfielder Antonio Puerta died this afternoon after collapsing during Sevilla's game against Getafe over the weekend. He was 22 and leaves behind his girlfriend who is eight months pregnant.

It's days like this that put the game into perspective.

Oh my god. I offer all my condolence to his family. You are right, Prenn. After all football is only football. But that is life.

Really hope that his team members will win against AEK for him.....and win a title this year which they can dedicate to him.

All players are going to have to submit for heart tests. This is another player to die this way along with the likes of Foe and Feher.

Very sad news, and what makes it even more sad is that he was 23, and had a GF that was pregnant. He had everything going for him, unfortunately you never know when it's your time.

Unbelievable, at 22 years old... A very sad day for everyone.
Can't imagine how tought it would be for Sevilla to get back to "normal" after such a loss, let alone his family and pregnant girlfriend. :(

When I logged on-line and saw that he died.... I felt really, really sad. I'm a Benfica fan, and maybe some of you know, but we went through this same thing three years ago, so I know how it feels. I was watching a clip two days ago, that showed the locker rooms when they were rushing Puerta out and they were trying to his mother who looked so distraught. Can you imagine what she's going through? Seeing her son become one of the best players in Spain, have so much joy for him, be so proud, then they die... It is beyond sad. I feel so bad for girlfriend and his unborn baby...
