    Re: Shield?

The team is named after the Puget Sound, so being from there, they are Sounders. Like you'd be a Perthian or Perther.

"Sounders," or "Puget Sounders," are people who live along the beautiful Puget Sound in western Washington, USA.

There is also a "Sounder" commuter train.

"Sounders," as in "Seattle Sounders," are an American soccer team with two distinct histories:

I was watching the A-league highlights on FSC and one of the games had a TON of seagulls flying around the pitch. It looked kinda funny, but I thought it gave the team/stadium a lot of character, because you could instantly tell it was a coastal team. I wonder, does this happen at Qwest? Living so far away I've only been to a handful of games.

Not really. The most I've ever seen in Qwest, at one time, was probably about 20, or so. And they were spread all around the stadium.

Actually a good portion of those Captains call Puget Sound home. Sig and Edgar are the coolest, however.

Just a regional name, man. We forget that the LA Lakers used to be the Minneapolis Lakers.
