With only Tevez fit, and Saha near full fitness, this leaves us with only 2 strikers. Do you think Fergie will now buy a striker before 31st of August? Maybe Solsjaer retiring will push him to.

Kenny Miller has been put up for sale by Celtic and for around $4mil, £2mil i think under Fergie he would do well.

We needed one before Solskjaer retired. If we do not get one in before the window closes then I will be very disappointed and exceptionally angry.

Kenny Miller is too inconsistent and does not score enough goals. In one game he can make the entire first choice Italian defense look like school kids and in the next he can be invisible against some shite relegation fodder in Scotland.

100% on the money. you buy miller your making a big mistake. he's going through his one month purple patch that he gets every season.

celtic are looking to cash in on him while his value is high as soon enough it will start to plummet again.

i would have thought that anelka would still be a great fit for man utd. expensive, but a great fit nonetheless.

Kenny Miller...Don't make me laugh!! We need to replace Ole who was a world class player. Fergie is running out of time.

Now i would welcome any of them names, even add to that list Freddy Kannoute. But i was on about a quick fix, maybe just to get us to the January transfer window. Nuno Gomez is now a free agent at Benfica (I'm thinking about money here with what we have already spent this season) and Miller would be cheap.

Adriano, now i do love the sound of that. Man, Rooney, Adriano, Tevez and Saha as our front 4.

Anyone any idea on what Adriano would cost?

ps. Chris Boyd is looking alittle out of favour at Rangers, he been on the bench alot as of late and seems smith likes Cousins and Darchville over Boyd

Man, i didn't think he would be going that cheap. £10million for a 25-year-old Adriano? Didn't Inter turn down Real Madrid's £50million bid only 12 month's ago? Fergie has to get him, at this price it would be a steal. And i can't see Adriano turning United down like he did City, we are the best known team on the planet and can give him Champions League football.

Even if Adriano was available for that price he is a high risk purchase. We need someone who can come in and instantly do a job. His has zero Premiership experience and has notable personal issues. It's far from ideal, particularly when the likes of Anelka are also available.

And this is just coming in

We defintely need one unless SAF wants to play Anderson up there instead.

The problem, there is a lack of really good strikers at the moment. Adriano and Defoe apart I cannot think of one. This Italian fella sounds ok but I'm not really enamoured by signing him.

It ses 10 years ago there were strikers every where. Batistuta, Shearer, Suker, Salas, Ronaldo, Raul, Crespo, Inzaghi, Vieri, Gomes etc. Now they're all gone.

If Quagliarella is the best available then we're in trouble. Berbatiovis out of thr question I suppose.

Even if all out strkers are fit, 3 isn't enough. You need 4 in my opinion........

Either SAF is gonna get someone out of the blue ala larsson or we're gonna stick with the current strikeforce

Re: Rossi Gone, Smith Gone, Rooney out till October, Solskjaer Retiring: Fergie need to buy a strike

I think there are more world class strikers now then back then, Ronaldo, Raul, Nistelrooy, Henry, Eto, Rooney, Kannoute, Tevez, Cresbo, Messi, Anelka, Trezeguet, Martins, Owen, Saha, Shevshenko, Drogba, Klose, Polodski, Toni, Gilardinho, Torre, Kuyt and Adriano

Anyone think AF could turn Anderson into a Striker? I know he has played the position before and think he could be good.

I think Anderson could be a striker, but we'd be back to the problem of no Premiership experience. I really think someone like Anelka or Martins would be the best fit for now, given they are proven goalscorers in the BPL. Anelka isn't known for being the brightest personality, however, so maybe he wouldn't be a good fit in the dressing room.

I'm sure SAF has options he's considering now that Ole has retired. I doubt he'll rely solely on hoping Rooney can get fit again. That would still leave us with only three proven strikers and that isn't enough with the glut of games we've got this season.

martins is a good option. He may not be very tall, but he is extremely explosive and he provides some physical presence. He is also available for 13m and he would doesnt seem happy at newcastle.

I would love to see Ardiano in the premiership... Rooney, Tevez, Adriano - that would be the all-star attack only Barcelona could rival at the moment.

    WE NEED ADRIANO.

If he was offered to West Ham, City, and Arsnholes, then I am sure he was offered to us, especially in our current situation.

As we all know except for the Hargreaves/Tevez sega exceptiom, we have been very quite with out signings and SAF just pulls them out of the blue. Larsson, Nani, Anderson no one where expecting them before they were made official. If we didnt want him or he didnt want to come here I am sure it would have made public like he denyed City or Arsenal rejected him. So I am sure he was offered to us, and the fact that its still quite might be a good thing.

Yes sure, Striker is a need in our side even when Rooney is fit, they both will be like a goal scoring mashines....

any Striker will do good, but if Adriano is available he'll earn my voice.

I wouldnt rate Kuyt, Gilardinho, Tevez (yet to have the same impact), Messi not really a striker, Podolski (too young and till unproven) or Kannoute (the closest) in the same sentence as the players listed before, and even many of the ones your listing have been around alot longer and arent really in their prime atm.

Even then some players like Rooney are pushing it as they havent reached the level yet that those previously listed did.

I am really missing Larsson now. His short spell was so sucessful. As of now I suppose Anelka is the most reasonable target. Crespo is another interesting name. Not sure how much PT the guy is getting at Inter now though.

I know, Larsson was awesome for us. *come back Henke :(*

We need a striker, but I can only see us signing someone on a loan deal deal until January at the earliest. It seems that Berbatov is our long term target, so we'll probably sign him either in January or at the end of the season. For now I can only see us going for a Larsson-esque loan. The only option supposedly open is Adriano, though. :(

There's a Times article (link here:

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_united/article2344096.ece

that says that SAF is spending the last 3 days frantically searching for the striker. Why would there be a 'frantic' search going on now? (which is why this must not be true!) What, other than the Rooney injury, is a surprise in the story of the Man Utd strikers? And what happened this week to make SAF 'frantic'?

(The only possibility I can see is that maybe SAF is looking at Tevez and thinking, "my God, he's slooooooooooow!")
