Just wanted to send a big thank you to Mike (KGDG2005) for going thru such great lengths to make sure everyone was sorted for the game in TO, and delivering tickets to 10+ hotels around town, and waiting for my late ass at the gate. Thanks to BBBulldog for pointing me in the direction of this forum (and just in the nick of time, too). I had a great time meeting so many DC fans, and enjoyed playing 'tour guide' to quite a few of u. Made some good friends today, that's for sure, and I got some great pictures! (will post them later, its almost 5am now!) My non-soccer girl friends (who came on a last minute whim) also had a blast with our group, and perhaps they will be new long-distance United fans? Was awesome to receive a text msg from my friend in Fairfax who said he saw me on TV! Wicked! I hope everyone had a blast here, and I'll be seeing u back in DC when I move back next week. -Nathalie P.S. How'd the bachelor party go, guys? P.S.S. Any good stories about after-the-game events?
OMG, of course I SHOULD know that... but I was so tired when I wrote that, and had spent the whole night hanging out w/a guy from DC named Mike, I think I got a little confused. Jesus- how embarrassing!
Also, TFC management came over to us at the end of the game and told us how DC fans are the BEST fans that have come to their stadium. They also made us stay 30 mins after the game for 'our safety', tho I really dont think TFC fans would've done much of anything. Thing is, they (stupidly) placed us in between TFC fans from above & below, and in the final minutes, we started getting pelted with beers from both ends. Little do they know we do that to ourselves, so no big deal. I think management or security were just trying to prove a point that it was dumb to place us there, so as to not do it the next time.
What about me?? I did post with you all night. And had great conversation with your Croation/Canadian friend. Lol!!!
Quick, somebody call Excedrin -- what great potential for their Excedrin Headache # 101 campaign. Heck, I didn't even know that she was there. We shoulda bought her a drink. GM
If anyone is in my pics, send me a PM to let me know your real & screen names. I'm new, so I gotta learn. (and please dont say "I'm that guy in the black shirt"... lol)
One incident at the top of the hilarity-o-meter (hilaritomoter?) happened on a rainy/misty Saturday early afternoon. Six or so of La Barra in colors were cruisin down the street to the next bar/destination when out pops a guy and his squeeze. This guy had lalasgals beckham jersey on. We just couldn't help ourselves as we followed this spectacle of serenity -- several rhetorical questions were asked about the man's ancestory and recent associations. Then we just followed him laughing loudly down the entire block. Dude picked up the pace and motored on down the street into a store. That was a side-splitting interlude. Every time we passed a traffic cone we'd try to summon a beckham jersey: here becksy, becksy, becksy --- here, becksy, becksy, becksy. GM
I dont know how to attach pics but I'm in # 28, the guy "in the black shirt" on the left. I remember when you took the picture, its a good one, my Mom would be so proud! My name is Howard, I am officially a SE member but I sit on the "quiet side" at RFK (get to actually SEE the game that way...) The guy next to me, wearing the Got United? shirt, is Doug, of Barra Brava. I think he went off with the bachelor party, I didn't see him at Shoeless Joes, the TFC bar, after the game. The TFC supporters were very friendly, buying everyone drinks, complimenting us on our support - it was a lovefest!
I know what you mean! I'm Howard, the dude with the hat and the goatee and the two scarves and the Benny Olsen jersey. You might remember me from such movies as "doing one hitters in the alley next to Shoeless Joes"
That's awesome about Shoeless Joe's. My friend wanted to stay at the Ex and gamble, and then we ended up at a quiet bar after. Aside from some absolute retards that were harrassing us when we left the stadium, all the other TFC fans were very friendly and wanted to make sure the DC folks were having a good time & find out what they thought of TO. I'd sent a few text msg's to people trying to find out where they were and if it was 'safe' to go there, but no one replied back, lol. Probably too busy getting free drinks.
