4 days off? No Petkovic before Friday? Will they evaluate him alone or do they need him to practice with the squad?
is he signed? was a 33 year old serb defender really the best player available to them? Does he play right, left or central?
Left mid woohoo! Now this is what will happen, Khano will see his spot threatened and get all jacked up to play so good all of us will crap our pants, he will whip in several superb crosses a game and we shall win handily. The only problem is, he's already been challenged for a spot from wells, so lets hop petkovic is the real deal (at least for left mid!) so we can start having a complete team! I like the idea of khano as a super sub anyways
I'm not so sure. We've got to have one of the slowest attacking teams in the league already. The only position on the field that threatens to get behind the defensive line of our opponents is the left wing with Khano or Wells. Nothing I've read about Petkovic suggests that he is fast. Putting him on the wing gives the opposition free rein to set up on the midfield line knowing they can recover if any of our attacking players try to break their trap.
Yes, yes, I understand, however this begs the idea that Petkovic can actually defend! Such an anomaly, an outside midfielder who can position himself correctly to stall/disrupt an attack, something Khano clearly has trouble doing. I'd be willing to sacrifice all of the offense that Khano gives us for a player who does not give away the ball as often as he does, anyways like I said, Khano can come on as a SuperSub! In any case, Petkovic will probably be playing defense anyways, and is insurance in case Heaps is out for a good while (also remember parky was injured a few games back and could still have a nagging injury from that). All in all, if we do actually sign him (have we yet?!) it seems like he will be a fine acquisition. He supposedly is versatile, which Nicol really likes, and gives us veteran experience wherever he plays, and that teenie weenie extra depth that could prove to be what we need.
To be clear, I want us to sign Petkovic, too. He sounds like a solid defender and a versatile player. We can use skill and experience everywhere. My post was just about wanting more speed in our attackers, not less.
only postition i could find so far that he plays is Central defender. I hope he has at least the same pace as Heaps. One thing about Jay, he might screw up from time to time but he has some decent recovery speed
