At our next home game (9-9-07) against the Revs I would like to put together a few packages of items for one of our Barra brothers Brian Collver who is kicking ass with the Army in Iraq. I think it would really mean the world to him to get something from all his friends in La Barra Brava. He has my Barra flag that has gone on a remarkable 5 wartime deployments with Barra members fighting the war on terror.

His dad and myself will have a few boxes for the items.

Here are a few things he likes:

    Oberto's Habanero jerky

    Sourdough hard pretzels

    Various hot sauces

Packaged tuna in water (no cans or tuna in oil). The seasoned
    tunas are OK.

    Tuna snacks with the crackers

    White cheddar popcorn

    Chips of any kind really

    Cheese dips

Energy drinks or concentrates (absolutely NO Red Bull! He's Barra)

    Packaged tea

Any personal notes or cards and any Barra Brava or United stuff

    Thanks to all who help.
    :D

Just a tip, remember that these packages sometimes travel around Iraq for several days (sometimes longer) before arriving. The extreme heat, and rough-handling they receive take a heavy toll. Be sure to use extremely sturdy boxes, tape the corners, and select products with packaging that will protect them from the heat. If he's stuck at a remote post, the only thing he'll have to drink is bottled water, I can't tell you how nice it was to receive jugs of gatorade powder.

Here's our guy Brian (at left)...

You may be used to seeing him in fights at RFK, but these days his enemies are little tougher then CSC :D

Let's send him enough jerky to feed the entire battalion and keep him in our prayers.

(We will need Brian for that mercenary army Oscar keeps talking about to liberate Bolivia ;) )

--I'll never forget the email we recieved (I had been more then a little nervous sending the thing), it said, "Hygiene of the umost importance out here... PLEASE SEND MORE LISTERINE!"

(NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS FOR BRIAN... Unless of course he asks :D)

It's hardly the same... but I DO have about three years worth of Maxims I found as i was cleaning up my house.

It's hardly Salma but if it didnt cost $300 to ship them in freight I'd bet the guys would be able to find a use for them.

(I am fcking keeping the one with Melissa Joan Hart though there is just something about those teenage witches :D )

I'm definitely ready to pitch in! As a Navy Officer, I'm used to sending shit overseas to friends! Sometimes the most simple things make the biggest difference to them!!! (Like Shower to Shower!!!) Anyway, I'll be bringing some stuff with me to the game!

I strongly believe that this should be moved to the main forum!

I think you would get a lot more people involved for this great purpose

I'm going to miss the 9/9 game, but if you can wait another 4 days I'd be happy to bring supplies to the 9/12 game.

    I am Brian's dad.

First if you can't make the match on 9/9, I will be there on 9/12 and pick up more goodies. It will probably take me that long to mail out everything from the ninth.

Brian goes to the Barra Website whenever he gets around a PC. He looks at the game pictures in particular. Most of our phone conversations when he does call are about the happenings in La Barra Brava and Iraq.

Lately packages have been getting to him in 7 to 8 days since he is at a former Iraqi officers academy compound (FOB Rustamiyah) in NE Baghdad adjacent to Sadr City. We have to package bottled goods well since the USPS asks about liquids (I lie).

If any of you are weight lifters and have any protein goodies you like bring them. Brian bench presses over 300 at the moment and works out whenever he can. All the bases and COPS have weight rooms.

I can't thank you all enough. This will really be a boost to him and those around him. I'm sure we will be sending enough for him to pass around. His company is not a large one. BTW: He is with Delta Company, 2-16th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division (Big Red One). He deployed in February and his tour is up in May. He has leave planned for next month and hopes he will get home while United is at home.

Begbie, I'd be happy to send Brian some English Tea, but am unable to make the match - as I live in England!

How do that? Also if there's anyting else I can do from the other side of the world, let me know by PM please.

    Hey all and Shannon too,

Brian is my BABY brother, even though he doesn't look like my baby bro anymore.

I just want to thank all of you in advance who are going to bring stuff for him on Sunday.

You have no idea how excited he will be...all I talk to him about on the phone is soccer and his buddies in Barra Brava.

    See ya all Sunday!!!!

Energy drinks should be OK. He doesn't need any sports drinks as the Army has plenty of Gatorade and the like available. If he doesn't use something, somebody will you can be assurred of that and it will be appreciated. Just remember the temps are still over 100 in September. They keep themselves hydrated well.

    Thanks all
