It's hard to say. The local media may jump on Denilson. But, unfortunately, Denilson isn't enough of an "icon" to attract national media attention. But, there will be a Denilson effect in the soccer community, obviously.

That being said, any addition to the MLS is a good addition and can help the respectability and quality of the league. It's still an excellent signing, in my opinion.

I think Denilson will be more of an Angel type DP...not so much huge impact on ticket sales, but on the field impact.

Did Blanco really have any national effect in america?
Denilson is roughly on the same level as Blanco in terms of international fame, probably higher actually because he was an absolutely spectacular player and really high-profile when he moved to europe.
So people remember him, while Blanco is largely unknown.

That's outside of the US though, over there Blanco might be bigger because of the mexicans.

As for his on-pitch impact it might not be as big as you'd hope, considering that he never succeeded in europe and is apparently coming straight from the saudi-arabian league.
    He's been a constant underachiever.

Well, attendance is up significantly in Chicago because of him, and he drew thousands fans on the road in Salt Lake. So, it's not as big as the Beckham effect but there most certainly is a noticeable effect.

I'm expecting, but hoping to be wrong, that he will not play at a high level. I'm also not sure he's really 29. I think this might turn out similar to Reyna in NY. I hope Dallas didn't pay too much for him.

Mexican-Americans are American, and they're all over the US.

They're a h-uge demographic for Univision/Telefutura and Telemundo, and the attention he gets on those stations is insane.

    So... yes.

I think the team has probably drawn an increase of roughly 5k per game, home and away, so far since he's been here. At $30/attendee (including food and parking), that's 150k+ per game which would be $4.5mm over a 30 game season. If $2.25 mm goes to the home team, that's about what they are paying him. That doesn't include anything for sponsorship or any impact on tv ratings, bonus games, playoffs, etc.

We have a partner team in Curitiba, Brazil that have given a thumbs up on him. When Paranaense came to play in Frisco in March a large contingent of Brazilians showed up (probably 1000-2000). 1-2 thousand extra tickets sold a game at PHP is a big deal. Any area with Brasil fans will experience the "Denilson" effect.

I wonder what kind of crowd Denilson will draw on the 15th @ New England.

FC Dallas is already a good team, If Denilson is healthy he can take them over the hump to Great. He can help them make a champioship run. This guy has great skills, Ricardihno with one more GEAR, and better vision.

He's a great player but he is not a star, I don't think it would have a great impact if he played for NYRB having such a huge brasilian population in the Harrison/Newark/Kearny area.
Like JP Angel here, with maybe half a million Colombians in the area and as great as he is this year I don't think any Colombians are buying tickets to see him.
It will make FCD better and that may help in the stands.

Like others have said, he'll have more of an impact on the field. It could translate to more butts in seats if he leads FCD to a championship, but they had a chance to win the Cup without him.

No effect, except maybe in NY & Boston.
