I'd start him with Parke in the center and push Seth into the middle with Joey Vide. Seth is better as a midfielder anyway.

that goal was conways fault. the ball was about 30 yards away. if conway could actually run, instead of flop around like a big goon, that goal could've been prevented. he didnt even move until he dove for it!

Id say it was 50/50...that ball had too much pace and was directed at goal which shoyuld not be done.

Just saw the replay on Red Bulls in 60. Gotta say.... not his fault. The pass wasn't that fast. Seemed pretty right-to-him. Conway's fault... almost completely. Certainly not an "out of control" back pass. It should have been handled. The only thing I would say is that is was towards the goal... but hey... Conway was there.

Overall, I have liked Mendes. I think for our not-so-stellar defense, Mendes belongs out there. Not sure about starter vs. sub, though.

All Mendes did was kick the ball back to Conway. Conway let it in, it was Conway's fault, Conway was asleep, Conway is to f**king blame. That backpass didn't require a f**king dive, if his eyes were open he could've stopped it by moving 5 feet to his right.

It's funny to me how people are so quick to jump to conclusions, and they can't even properly analyze today's events. Did you watch the game? All you punks want to do is hate, it doesn't matter who is on the receiving end.

If you're going to bitch, be intelligent about it. This board nauseates me sometimes.

I guess is not as good as we thought he was. What a pass. Honestly, i think he still has a lot to learn. He is good, but he is not there yet, same as Michael Bradley.

Thats all on Conway, not Mendes. WTF was he doing? How could he be so out of position that he couldn't even save it with this HANDS. He was definetly sleeping and fuking cost us the game. The great Conway everyone!

I'm annoyed at the lapse, but at the end of the day it's just sports. The general attitude on this forum is pretty galling, though. I may have to start hating on the RB forum...

I prefer Conway to Waterreus, but John has to accept responsibility for the brain freeze. It would have been bad enough to concede an indirect kick for handling the back pass, but to miss it entirely for an own goal? Wow. Not hateful, just honest. He'll get over it. He also deserves credit, along with the defense, for keeping the ball out of the net on some first half goalmouth scrambles.
    Ghost of Caricola.

After seeing this goal and the second goal Conway let in against Chivas I'm starting to see why he has been a career backup. The guy can make some great stops but he can also let in howlers.

I saw Beckenbauer score an own goal, Cosmos vs. Team USA in DC back in '81 or '82. It was the Kaiser's second stint in the NASL, after he finished his short stint with Hamburg. Brandi Chastain scored an own goal vs. Germany in the '99 WWC, here in the States. Both were poor back-passes to the keeper.

I think Caricola's came from poor clearances, if I remember correctly. That's another species altogether.

    Shit happens, especially to us.

Shit happens. Nobody's perfect. I was more pissed at the front-running Revs fans who didn't start chirping until after the Revs took the lead. I told one clown if he could keep his mouth shut for 80 minutes another 10 should be so hard.

Although the own goal was not his fault, I think Mendes just gave Arena a great excuse to keep him on the bench. For whatever reason he is not one of "his" guys just as Dunivant wasn't.

Hmm. Not sure that's true - Carlos started most of our games this season. It's just the last few that he hasn't. I believe he got worn out/had a slight injury...

That said - the goal sure looked like Conway's fault to me.

see : DC, 2006 to send us home.

Legit MLS Keeper > Conway > Watterus

and it's a problem that is not getting fixed this year.

RIGHT in front of me. Totally the keepers fault. The ball was hit firmly but was not a rocket.

Except that Mendes put it on goal! He really should have put it somewhere between Conway's left and the corner flag. Conway would have had come out of the box to get it, yes, but even if he would not gotten to it would only have resulted in a corner kick. Really, Mendes was not under great pressure and as much as Conway screwed up (might have tripped on the turf, I hear), this blunder I'll attribute to Mendes. If it wasn't an own goal, it might be a Goal of The Year candidate.

Yup. Meola saved, it fell to Caricola's feet, who tried to put it out and instead put it into the net.

For those of us that have been there since the beginning, here's the reminder of how it all started. Prepare to cringe:

    *shudder*

I was there, and remarked about dark omens to my father.

In retrospect, the remark was more flippant than was actually warranted.

35-40 yards out on a bouncing ball. If he can hit it with utter precision, he should be a striker. Seriously, this is not U-12 soccer. The pass was fine. Keeper slipped.
