    According to Geoff anyway.

Anyone got a guess as to how the lottery will work?

Same way the other ones work: points over the last 32 (?) games with bonuses for playoffs

Based on points this season this would be the order for the chance to select first.

    1. Real Salt Lake
    2. Los Angeles
    x. Toronto FC
    3. Chicago
    4. Colorado
    x. Columbus
    5. Kansas City
    6. Chivas USA
    7. D.C. United
    8. New York
    9. FC Dallas
    10. Houston
    11. New England

I can't find the results from last year to bring the games up to 32 each.

This is a great sign that our star youngsters will be looking to the MLS. I expect a lot more of this. Top players either going overseas or to MLS. College will start missing out on more.

    Hers howm it really works.
Galaxy get to choose whether they want him or not, if they pass he goes to the next team that is 1st in line. If said players wants to play a particular city MLS will find a way for that work out as well

How many teams have an open roster slot (other than New England who have two) at this point in the season? I guess teams can waive someone if they win.

    Weighted Lottery for Israel Sesay

Evidently he's part of the U17 residency program.

So, why a lottery and not just make him go through the SuperDraft next year as a GenAD guy?

Probably because he's signed with MLS BEFORE the rosters are locked (which I believe occurs in September). Just a guess though.

TFC could use him... Jeff Cunningham is going for surgery in Germany shortly. And boy does TFC need a goal scorer! ;)

    Cheers!

If hes that good was he with the U20 team? I realize hes only 17 or something like that, but its irrelevant as long as hes not older.

There were some citizenship issues I believe.

Goff (spelled G-O-F-F) claims the kid is a decent prospect, but wouldn't likely see many first-team minutes this year. Good athlete, decent touch, but still raw. Given that, and his age, and he'd likely just take a developmental spot.

No one should expect him to come into MLS and be a contributor right away. 2009 is more likely after some good coaching and reserve games.

Good coaching? That narrows it to about half the league . . .

Assuming LA doesn't want him and drafting him releases a DP slot so they can keep Donovan, San Jose has lots of open slots in their roster ;)

All kidding aside, why shouldn't SJ be part of this lottery and be able to loan him out?

Stephen Goff says the lottery is tomorrow at 2:30 pm (I'm assuming EDT).

    RSL 22.5% chance of winning
    L.A. 18.8
    Colorado 15.4
    Chicago 12.4
    Kansas City 9.7
    New York 7.4
    Chivas 5.4
    D.C. 3.7
    Dallas 2.3
    Houston 1.3
    New England 0.7
(Columbus, which won the Robbie Rogers lottery in the spring, and expansion Toronto will not participate)

OK, so they ARE using 30 games instead of 32, and including last night's two results.
