I knew Fraz as an Arrow. He also ran a soccer camp for me in Brooklyn.

He had some personality! kids loved him a real soccer show off and took what he did very seriously. He did a lot of camps in Long Island.

No one mentioned Warner Roth or I just missed it.He was a very good player he came from the Cosmopolitan soccer league the local league in NYC. I played against him.

He became one of the Captains of the Cosmos.

His other claim to fame was he appearded with Pele in Stallones movie Victory. He was the captain of the German national team black hair.

Wrener Roth moved over to the USA from Yugoslavia at the age of 11. He was injured I believe in 1979 then Jeff Durgan took his spot....As much as the MLS American players are great today, I think those two defenders were awesome. In some ways I think they could have done better than the guys we have now. On the other hand, I'm sure playing with such great players helped improve their skills. I think Ricky Davis said it best that when he said, if you play alongside such great players, how can you not learn and not get better?
You wonder at what level the current MLS players could be at if they had more great (NASL like) names sprinkled across the league. I'm sure the national team would show much faster improvement also.

Cryuff played a couple of exhibitions with the Cosmos before signing for the Aztecs and later playing for the Dips.

Yeah he played a few exhibitions with the Cosmos. I had read at the time he didn't want to play with them becuase he didn't wabe a star among many other stars. Then I read the real reason was he didn't want to play on the astroturf as he didn't like it.

He was reunited with his Clockwork Orange coach in LA and it was thought in the league that he would be overkill with the Cosmos.

Bandov's son Thomas will be a freshman at Manhattan College this fall. He's one to watch. Tremendous skill.

How many games does a player have to play with a club to be considered a one time member of that club?

On my old club we had Harkes for 2 games. Can he be considered a one time member of our club?

I think it would have to depend on which player we are talking about???? I mean Johan Cruyff or Erhardt Kapp or do most remember Ricky Davis or Pele? Who do most remember?

Marcelo Balboa played one minute for the MetroStars, but he still has the audacity to say "we were really bad" at public appearances.

While I don't think a trial qualifies, surely anyone under contract does; anyone making an appearance, however brief, qualifies as having been a member of a club.

Bob Smith was inducted into the US Soccer Hall of Fame last weekend. Bob operates the Bob Smith Soccer Academy in his hometown of Hamilton, New Jersey. Bob also operates an indoor facility that is second to none in New Jersey. Bob is found often at Steinert High School in Hamilton, which is a storied high school program that started in the late 60's with Bob, where he has two boys that are players cut from the same mold.

Bob is one of the great assets to the game of soccer. He works with players and teams of all ages, has a tremendous passion for the game, and has an incredible way of connecting with players of all ages.

Those of us that have been fortunate enough to be associated with Bob and have had our children trained by him, have a great appreciation for the game and the way it should be played, and recognize the promise of soccer in the United States.

I've listed this in several different NASL related threads just in case there are those who didn't get to see it. I figured if it weren't for Pele & the NASL we probably wouldn't be here today disccusing the MLS, the USWNT or USMNTor anything else having to do with soccer, for that matter. Even though the Quakes had a blistering 17k in attendance before Pele set foot in NY, his impact still made soccer in the USA into what was a short lived big time. The legacy he and the rest of the league left however, has been unmatched.

30 yeas ago this Monday Pele retired from soccer...
Pele's farewell match was played on Saturday October 1st, 1977...The match was televised live on ABC TV's Wide World Of Sports. Pele played one half against his old club Santos and the 2nd half switched jersey's playing against the Cosmos. He scored in the 1st half on a free kick for NY.

Trevor Francis was the best striker I had seen in the NASL, and I had seen practically all of them. Just a devatsating player with the ball at his feet, especially when running at a defender.

Roberto Cabanas was also superb, but he really wasn't a classic striker and had a completely different style than Francis.
