The Ukrainian Premier League has already started. It contains 16 teams and 30 rounds. The season begins in July and ends in May with a winter break from December to March. After 3 rounds so far, Shakhtar sits in 2nd place with 7 points. They also played a Champions League 2nd Qualifying round match today, which they won 2-0.

In 2006/2007, the Ukrainian League was considered to be the 11th best in Europe (Greece was 15th) in terms of European coefficients.

Oh, nice. I was originally ticked about his transfer but there are some positives. Thanks for the info. A lot of us are just misinformed.

    Wow Eastern Europe, thats crazy!!

I would have gone to premiere league, or La Liga for half that money. but thats me. I have been to Ukraine, and Donetsk where the team plays, is one of the ugliest, poorest cities i have ever been to.

    but good luck to him..

I don't think he had much of a choice. I think Olympiakos told him stay (for less money) or go to the team that is offering us (Olympiakos) the most money.

The spazzo's are already saying stupid things like "your best player is playing in Ukraine"...."Mexicans think Shakhtar is the best team in Ukraine"..."Mexicans think Shakhtar is one of the best teams in the world like Arsenal only colder"

One spazzo said "Shakhtar is hardly one of the best teams in the world" to which another spazzo replied "are you questioning the collective knowledge of the Mexican forum"

    F****** Spazzo's...Argh..Whatever...That's why we call them Spazzo's..

I don't know why you even bother with their forums...we could win the WC and they still will find a way to crap on it...we would probably do the same.
Nery isn't our best player...at least in my opinion. He's too individualistic. Rafa still reigns supreme. He's done it for a while and on the biggest stages. Nery ain't even close!

In the "spazzos" defense, Shakhtar isn't one of the greatest, but they're still in the CL. You should just be content with the fact that most of our players that are in Europe have been successful. To the point that most will be starters on 1st div teams, that will be taking part in CL.

You want to win a WC, count on nery. He's deffinately becoming the best player mexico's ever had! Its a player like nery that gives you that extra kik to win.

-Not saying Rafa is not insanely good.

lol dont trip man, spazzos will be spazzos. their best player apoo from ghana who isnt even american hes actually an immigrant just got sold for a meezly 1.7 mill euros LOL thats chump change. and their still worshiping that greaseball italian rossi who rejected the usa nat team to play with the great diving team of italia lol, I cant beleive they would actually put a forum up for that guy. he rejected the usa, said fack no i wont play for your sorry ass team. and they still praise that loser haha talk about pathetic. he just got sold to villareal , i thought he was going to be the next ronaldo for manu etc. never happend :D. we still have better players in better clubs, plus we have some cracks, and one of our best is gio. they have 0 players playing at power house clubs 0 haha, we still own shit up. most of their young players are 1st generation americans too, like zizzo beltran, NOT real americans. :D we run this dont forget.

In all honesty he will never be considered one of our greatest. Right now I rank them Hugo and Rafa. I don't think he'll even be given the title of best forward of this generation. The whole of Mexico is waiting to anoint Giovani as the second coming. All Gio needs is to score a goal in the CL and Nery will be deduced to number 2 forward... If Vela kicks ass...number 3. I also think most Mexicans will throw their support more towards Vela and Gio because most will consider them "more" Mexican. Plus, it has to be mentioned that Gio and Vela will be loved for bringing us our 1st and only title...they're almost legends already.

For everybody disliking the move Nery did to go to Shakhtar, bring everything into perspective, look at it as him being traded in the MLB from the National League to the American League. Let him shine for a season or two in the Ukrainian league and the CL and he will move to greener pastures, cause I am sure it is going to be a rough transition from living in the Mediterranean to living in the Ukraine.

You got me curious so I read up...you instigated the entire thing.

I can't believe you went to their forum discussing Adu to Benfica, especially when our very own Kikin just got bitch slapped out of there. I guess some people like to argue.

There we go again talking about gringos in a topic that has nothing to do with them.
The obsession here is obvious, why not make a thread about yanks abroad, since in every topic a gringo player pops up.

Can we go back to Nery?
He went for the money, its obvious he's not going to get better.
However, as I said, Shakhtar really isn't as bad. I'm surprised no one else went for him, at the prices some of these players are going for (he's at least as good as Higuain, who went for 19 I think). He's young as well, his selfishness might have cost him playing at a better club for more money.
